So much hate in the D&D forum, yea I know it's debate and discussion but some of it is pretty extreme. I know we have different political affiliations but if we could work together anything is possible but if we keep on the current path we'll destroy ourselves and this country. That's just one man's opinion...

I think honesty would go a long way. I think not posting stuff until something is done to verify it would help. Polluting the water with stuff that ends up turning out to be pure BS is horrible.

The left has done this as well. So both sides can improve.

Understanding another's position. You don't have to agree, but when you understand where the other is coming from, it goes a long way towards civil discussion.

Compromising is overrated. Three-fifths compromise and Missouri compromise just kicked the can down the road are were immoral to boot.

Discourse is often ugly but its how democracy works and is ultimately healthy. The issue today is the tactics used in discourse such as trying to silence others with force (including shouting over others). Go watch any debate from the 80s on youtube and see what discourse looks like when done appropriately.

'working together' is hippie bullshit that is awful for government.

So I put on my old man glasses and my old man suspenders and vaguely remember Reagan working with a Dem controlled Congress to pass laws he later took credit for.

Of course, those glasses weren't rose tinted with rage and with garbage AM radio ads selling Apocalypse Seeds and Gold Plated collectors coins that will be the barter currency of choice when The Evil Fed and their cadre of ethic bankers inflates away the dollar into worthlessness.

    Hmph millennials

Probably nothing re: OP. Debate is a great freedom we take for granted. It is ugly but needed for the Republic to survive.

The problem is the political parties themselves …. they have gone off the rails.

If anyone came at you 4 years ago with that green new deal crap you'd dismiss them outright - instantly.

If anyone said a $50b wall from sea to shining sea was the solution to immigration , you'd laugh at them.

Both sides spend like drunken teenagers with daddy's credit card …. I recall a time when we talked about the debt in Billions , and we weren't happy about it , now we're talking about $23Trillion like its nothing.

The parties have gone to the lunatic fringe and many people have followed them there … its party over idea's , ethics and morals these days - those of us in the middle are left wondering where to turn.

I've voted D , I've voted R and even wrote in Mickey Mouse as a presidential candidate - every time I've felt like "we lost" no matter which way I vote.
Eventually we just have to apply some good old fashioned common sense …. cause we just cant sustain this level of stupid.

Like two years of dishonesty about Russian collusion which has turned out to be "pure BS"?

Not going to happen anytime soon. We can not even agree on what are "fact". Unless there are some huge threats either man made or natural that forces both sides to come together, both side will drift further apart.

What will it take for us to work together? A common enemy, so a large scale war--probably where we are attacked first, or perhaps a fast moving and lethal pandemic. Could be an asteroid or comet hurtling towards earth. Alien invasion.

People having the guts to actually disagree with their own political party every now and then would help.

Is 2 parties really a democracy? I just want the U.S to be a place where even the weirdos from the Green Party can win an election. The Gop party has become a party of troll masters, while the democratic party gets suckered in it. It's not even politics anymore. Not many know, only true geniuses and people that have google but George Washington was the last president to win as a 3rd party candidate.

    also, what Ima said.

Naw man, I love everybody here. Even the folks I have on ignore. But I like to argue with people. It sharpens my ideas. Now there is this side problem in real life where the country is going to hell in a handbasket because politicians won't listen to me. But that's different. Maybe if they'd come and post at cf.net, they'd listen to sense.

when a couple of posters accused you of being a democrat, it was one of the most eye opening moments for me in recent D&D history.

It was definitely my "we're not in boystown anymore." or however that wizard of oz quote goes.
