Are they waiting for the ratings to go up? I'm pretty sure there are other teams that always have their games in HD. I hope it's different in the regular season.
He's talking about the actual regular season games during the season. CBS is supposed to have most of their games in HD this year like Fox does (unlike years past where only 2-3 per week were in HD).
this is from wiki. Beginning with the 2007 season, CBS will air five or six of Sunday's games in high-definition.[3] All games broadcast during Weeks 1, 5, 6, 9, 12 and 15 will be broadcast in high-definition. As late as 2006, CBS aired only three of its NFL games in high-definition each week, the same number of games it had aired for the past few seasons. The other networks with rights to broadcast NFL games, NBC, and ESPN, broadcast all of their games in high definition, and FOX broadcasts up to six in HD. Becaus of this, some fans have accused CBS of being "cheap."[4] CBS Sports Executive Vice President Tony Petitti claims the network will probably air all of its NFL games in high definition by 2008 or 2009. When asked about the move, Petitti commented that CBS was focused on building a new studio for The NFL Today pre-game show. However, another CBS executive had previously indicated[5] that, because CBS was an "early adopter" with its first HD game in 1998, it is already "at capacity" and would have to replace newly-bought equipment in its network center with even more expensive equipment. CBS states that it has put emphasis on its national coverage of college football's SEC. Some of these games are done in HD, theoretically reducing the number of HD trucks CBS can use for the NFL
The one tonight is in HD. Only 720p, not 1080i. Not that the average eye could tell the difference anyways. I assumed they all would be since the big 4 networks all have an HD version. As long as the games are local and not on knws or fox sports i thought it was in HD.
Its on the HD channel... which is normally broadcast in 720p when they have HD content... but this is NOT HD. The two big black bars on either side of the picture should be able to tell you that.
My DVR box said it was 720p. I assumed that's what it was broadcasting in. I didn't have the black bars on the edges of my TV, and i didn't have it set on zoom to get rid of them.
What were you watching it on? Comcast, Direct TV, Dish?...Comcast's coverage surely wasn't HD, and I'm curious to know if Ch 13 had thier HD chopper cam showing the game.
It might have been broadcast in HD but that does not mean the content is. All it means is that there are 720 horizontal lines in the signal as oppose to 480. The actual video is not detailed enough to where you would notice a difference. If i'm wrong and that WAS HD, I'll throw my LCD away.
why would they waste money broadcasting the game in HD when it doesn't even count, it's preseason, and most viewers will turn it off at the end of the 1st anyways.
The broadcast SIGNAL was HD on 313. BUT...the game was NOT shot using HD cameras (format)...why it was not a true HD 16X9 picture. The game looked a lot better on 313 than 13. You have to remember that there is a difference between a HD broadcast signal and HD format. EVERYTHING on 313 is an HD signal. BUT...that does not mean the format used on that program was in HD. Everything on 460 (HBO-HD) is an HD signal. All the programming like boxing, Hardknocks, etc are in an HD format. But motion pictures are not in HD. They are converted to an HD format from their origianal 35mm format. They are converted from Anamorphic to 16X9 widescreen.
Yeah. As was mentioned, we'll have to see what happens during the regular season (since CBS does broadcast some games in HD), but this is more on 13's presentation than anything else. What will it take? For 13 to get some new equipment.
They have to get HD cameras, HD production trucks, and then a full HD setup at the studio. Given that the only part of their local news broadcast (the only time they're actually "broadcasting" some of their own content) that is in HD is the Chopper-cam, its doubtful they invest in all of that for just 4 pre-season NFL games. Now, KHOU (local 11) does broadcast their news in HD... they'd likely be able to show the games in HD if they had the broadcast rights for pre-season games that ABC-KTRK bought 6 years ago.
In addition to what Nick said, Ch 13's only other HD camera is the Weather Cam on top of its antenna aside from the Chopper Cam. Fox: all NFL games on HD on all broadcasts NBC: Sunday Night Football in America ALWAYS on HD ESPN: All Monday Night Football games on HD CBS: Cheapskates. Only 4 of all AFC teams on HD, and the only games on HD the Texans had were against the Jets and the Cowboys. If the road team is NFC, you bet your ass it's on HD. I don't know how cheap ass CBS decides when the Texans are on HD or not. Last season, I guess they thought the Jets and Cowboys' games were going to be good, so they had us on HD without being the Nationally-televised game. ABC 13 is the home of the Texans during preseason only. This is totally different than regular season scheduling. Heck, I don't know what I am saying anymore, but Nick is right.
