My family likes to sit around and talk about how bad the damn tree hugging liberals are, how all the Latinos (insert racist reference here) and African Americans (insert racist reference here) are taking over America and how the godless heathens (like Muslims, Jews and Hindus) are destroying the world. So, needless to say, I don't go often and nothing surprises me when it comes to family reunions.

    :)

OMG Jeff, we are related. My family is so ****ing backwoods it's rediculous. Every reunion it's the same thing, talk about how America has been destroyed by all the imigrants, how the media is pushing all this (racist name) **** down our throats and how if we're not carefull the white race will be kicked out of America. I haven't gone to one in years.

I dont know if you can call it a reunion but we had a large family get together about 2 weekends ago in sugar land. I have a large family and many couldnt show so we only had about 50 or so relatives show up. A good time was had by all. We had a BBQ, went swimming and all sorts of good fun. Since I'm not white and my parents werent born here we didnt really talk about immigrants taking over.. We actually talk about the exact opposite of how there are so many people being oppressed by white americans and so on.. So i guess we are kind of 'backwoods' too. Its funny how similar all of us really are.. just the opposite side of the same coin.

We may not all agree on politics, culture, or the statute of limitations on the mullet hairstyle, but we do agree on the importance of eating until we nearly pass out at our family reunions. :D

I'm afraid to ask them ROckets03. Imagine how disturbing the answer may be.

Did any violence erupt at your various gatherings?

That's what was particularly interesting to me in this article. This was supposed to be a pro-family weekend and the problem seems to have stemmed from too many unsupervised children up to their ears in mischief....

I'm guessing alcohol was a big factor as well.

I remember a few years ago we had a family reunion. I went back to work on the Monday and complained about how it sucked because everyone made bad jokes and had small fights. When really it wasn't that bad. Then my workmate tells me about her weekend- she was kicked out of her house by her sister, and had a massive argument. I don't complain much after that...

We have a family reunion every year. It is pretty much like Soul Food. Just sit back . . .eat. . . relax and talk. it is on Father's Day. [was on mother's day until my Grandmother passed]

nothing extra ordinarily special good or bad
