We got our full electricity bill yesterday...it was $371 something! Dude! Our house is a single story with 3 bdrms and we turn off lights when we walk out of the room... We definitely have to look at the ways to save money on the bill because $371 is wayy too much. I think it is because we were moving in and using a lot of electricity or it could be the fireplace (it's a real one) and old windows. I think if we seal the fireplace off and replace the windows with energy saver windows then we would save some money. Ouch... Now, I can't buy any M.A.C. make up for a while.
DAYUM! I thought my $196 bill this month was crazy. How old are your appliances? When I lived in a 1 bedroom apartment on the 3rd floor, my bill got as high as $270.
wow, thats pretty harsh. highest I have had so far is ~$360...but we have a 2-stry, 5-bdrm. we just moved in this past Feb, though, so I don't have a wealth of experience... still, it's a 20 y/o house with it's original A/C and I know the previous owners haven't upgraded any of the insulation or windows...so it's not a very efficient machine. that $360 was last month and we kept the upstairs at 85 while we are away at work and the downstairs at 82...
Lady D, I'd look at adding extra insulation and the efficiency of your A/C unit (in that order) before having new windows put in..
We bought energy saver washer, dryer and fridge. The microwave, stove and dishwasher seems to be about 5 years old. our house is a 24 yr old house and i'm not sure if the a/c is original or the insulation...we are definitely gonna have a look. I thought 80 was the best temperature to set during the day.
$527. I'm gonna start walking around in shorts and chonklas only. I make a run through the house everynight now....... to make sure my family turns everything off.
Didn't we have one of these threads earlier this summer? Anyway, the highest mine ever got was $212 last summer. This summer, thanks to new, energy efficient appliances, the highest is $160.
It was your first bill no? Probably why. See if your electric company does a budget planning payment system. I pay the same amount year round... like 160 bucks so that during the summer and winter it doesn't rise and fall considerably. I have had winter bills at 250+ I just bought a new furnace and it went down drastically in the winter
Yes, we already had one of these threads. My bill for June 2008 was $420.00 for a 2-story 3000 sq foot house. So I started being anal towards my roommates about turning off the AC, lights, etc and it went back down to $250.00 for July.
Condo, around 1100 sq. ft, upstairs, last month was $298.00. I freaked out. I called and saw on my bill that I was paying variable and my pay per KW was very high, I think at 20.9 from 16.5 the month before. I called and received a fixed rate at around 14.3 for the next year with Gexa and received $50.00 off of my next bill.
One MEEELEEON Dollars. For serious, I dunno - my sister handles that for me. I think we're somewhere around $150.
YA'LL must leave the AC running on full blast when ya'll leave for the day to work... turn that **** off. It also has to do with how your house is facing the sun in the afternoon (2-5 p.m.) as this is the time with the strongest and hottest rays. Please explain to me how your fireplace is using up so much electricity... Also, replace the winders with double-paned, or get solarscreens. Don't say "what?!", you don't know my life! One of your eggs is hanging out, mister eggman! Turn off the lights, thasss' all I'm gonna say...
$280 for my 1 1/2 story condo...that was last month...that is the highest I've ever paid, however, its a combo of usage and high rates... Hell, I keep my A/C at 83 when I'm not home and 80 when I am...
Damn I hate my house.. It's around 600-700 in the summer... It's only 2500 sqft but it's old 1980 2 story home.. single pane windows. I can't afford to spend 15g's on new windows
$411 for me. 3 year old one story 2300 sq foot home. Does anyone here have Spark as their provider? I'm thinking of switching from Reliant before a cancellation fee kicks in.
Also when I leave for work I set it at 80 and when I get home around 4:30-6 I set it back to 75... nothing ever below 75.
My GF's last house (3 bedrooms, single story) bill was $528!!! I was like WTF! Thankgod, mine for this month was only $151. I have reliant....18cents a Kw. 3 bedrooms, 1 story.
