Just curious what team from the past does this current Rockets team remind you of.

A team with no go to guy.
    Has success even against odds.
Shares the ball with a well balance scoring attack.
Plays with hustle and effort every night.

The 08-09 Rockets, minus Tracy McGrady.

Yes, I myself am surprised nobody has posted a highlight video of Ron Artest passing.

Some similarities I think, but they also had Yao and Artest. I was thinking the 1999-2000 Orlando Magic, the year before they signed Grant Hill and Tracy McGrady. Zero expectations... finished 41-41 with a quick, small guard as their lead scorer (Darrell Armstrong) and their center was a virtual unknown (John Amaechi).

    Detroit 04.
OK so only Prince and Ariza match up well. And Larry Brown and Adelman. Still, we got that same "you're never gonna outhustle us" attitude.

I think OP was thinking of the Pistons, but I posit:

    2001 New England Patriots

A good college team like Duke under Coach K, they play hard all game long....and then win with teamwork.

Not sure about the NBA, maybe Sacremento, but only a little bit.....

Honestly, I think we underate what we have these guys are not just role players.

Scola has been a go to guy on the international stage for years, AB was a go to guy at Oregon, Battier at Duke, Landry at Purdue, Andersen in Europe....

They all know how to win, what is amazing to me is the egoless way in which they go about it, making the good pass for the better shot regardless of whether they have their numbers.

It is beautiful to see, there have been true teams with better players....the first Rockets championship, the Celtics with Bird, Magic's Lakers....all of them played team ball, they just had all time players.

This team is beating others because they play the TEAM game the way it should be played, now all we need are even BETTER players that play the game this way and away we go.

Probably the Bulls teams of the past decade or so ever since the days of Jordan and Pippen are long gone, they've been fighting their way into the playoffs with the likes of Loul Deng, Ben Gordon, Kirk Hinrich, etc.

I thought about them too, but i think the Rockets team is better than the Magic (assuming the current rotation stays healthy).

I agree with this more: Detroit before Chauncey, Rip, Tay, Ben, etc. got famous and the addition of Rasheed by trade. They had Okur back then, too. It's a bunch of guys who are more talented than people gave them credit for.

The other team I can think of is Scola's team Argentina. Both the Rockets and Argentina have Scola and have that Scola-like personality about them. Don't have much size, but talented.

That's a pretty good one. Scrappy defensive team, fast pace, no stars. The big difference I see, based on just a quick glance at the team stats, is they didn't shoot a lot of 3s.

If they didnt win games with horrid 3 point shooting I would agree with ya. But they can win games with or without the 3 ball. It just makes winning them easier, as I figure it would with any team that takes more than a minimal amount of triples.

Looking at that 04-05 Bulls team in particular, they had 4 rookies contributing heavily (Gordon, Deng, Duhon, Nocioni)... their elder statesmen was Antonio Davis (who was making 12 million dollars that year to average about 7 points and 6 rebounds a game). The Chandler/Curry fiasco was still in full swing in the front court.

Scott Skiles got 47 wins out of that, which in the 2004-05 Eastern Conference isn't exactly mind-boggling, but I think they certainly played a tough brand of basketball (finished 23rd in PPG, but 7th in DPPG)

I think they are not necessarily taking 3s, but are taking the first good shot, and if it is a 3, let er fly.

I like it....there is nothing that says you need 4 passes first to get a good shot.

    If you are open....shoot it.

I think a lot of this started with the playoff series win over Portland and escalated when Yao went down against the Lakers. Portland did a good job of not letting Yao beat them and it was the role players that took their game to the next level. Game 4 & 6 against the Lakers gave the guys the confidence that they can beat anyone, especially when everyone wrote them off.

The 1980-81 team reminds me a lot of this team. Even though they had a superstar in Moses Malone, the role players hustled and played with heart. They ended the regular season with a 40-42 record, but ended up taking the Celtics to 6 games of the NBA Finals.

This team somehow reminds me of RA's Kings minus Webber.

The PG combination of Jackson/Bibby and Brooks/Lowry.
