    Ever wonder about that?

    Some theories.

    1) Frustrated academic wannabees.

    2) Talk show host wannabees.

    3) Guys who read a lot of newspapers, unlike you know who, who prides himself on just having people tell him about the news.

    4) Those who like to feel superior to those who get wound up about politics.

    5) Those who get wound up about politiics.

    6) Those who need a good dose of adrenaline so they can keep their head off the desk while trying to do boring, but detailed paperwork or code writing.

    7) none of the above.

I love the information I get here, I love to hate the partisan bickering and thread derailment with insults by the various extremists.

I dont have a lot of time to search for information about what the candidates positions are, so I kinda depend on this forum to help me stay informed....but unfortunately these days very few seem to care about discussing issues....all they seem to care about is digging up junk that makes the other side look bad in their eyes.

WHen will they learn that the undecideds wont be swayed by the personal crap...we want to know why the candidates deserve our vote....and I think it is safe to say most of us make our decisions based on issues rather than tabloid demagoguery.

I like the info, and the arguments often also have an entertainment value, especially when pictures are posted to bolster one's argumentation. Even Sham Fisher sometimes excels with funny pictures. I like that.

I am fascinated by the show. I watch this room, and the characters in it, like I do a sitcom. But it's a special sit com. I get to be in it, too!

People who sit in a cubicle all day long surrounded by boring co-workers. That's me.

Believe it or not, I like to hear both sides of the issues which is why I love this forum despite all of it's flaws.

That's totally uncalled for. Keeley reads the Lifestyle & Entertainment section all by himself every day and twice on Sundays.

    5. Those who get wound up about politics.

I like this forum as it gives me a chance to refine my arguments and help to define my position on issues I have not delved deeply into.

I'm a political junkie, and have been since I watched JFK 's inauguration. Seeing him twice close up on motorcades down Broadway from the airport and being taken out of school by my Mom to see him speak at Rice Stadium and make his "We're going to the Moon by the end of this decade" speech certainly clinched the deal.

I don't get this "wound up" bit. I just love politics. This is the only place on the Net where I discuss it (and a lot of other things, of course), and it's a great outlet, because we have to be careful talkin' politics here, around Austin, because of my wife's position with the State. (she's an executive for an entity that works for the Legislature) Unless I go to Houston, where most of my friends are, talking to the Old Lady is my primary outlet, other than here. And this, obviously, is far more diverse. :)

I know.... I enjoy it even though I get wound up a bit too much at times. I even like and greatly respect some of the liberal posters here.
I think it was Madmax who said that no matter what, since we're all Rox fans, we could sit, have a beer, watch a game and politics not even enter the equation.

It's easier to argue these issues with relative randoms. I have an old friend from High School who loves Alan Keyes. Loves him. WTF? I am not going to rake my friend over the coals about Alan Freaking Keyes -- straining the friendship is not worth it. Just let it go, ask him to quote that Fearless Freep Bugs Bunny cartoon, and skip the politics.

But you guys, hey, I am happy to torch those relationships for some political debate. It's just not a big deal if someone here wants to mame you.

In fact, this place is the ONLY place I talk politics except with my Dad and my grandfather. Since many of my friends are of the...liberal persuasion, we avoid it at all costs.

For the record I would characterize myself as being at times an academic wannabe, a talk show host wannabe and it defintely is something to do as a distraction from work. I love politics, of course.

Hey Deckard, I date my interest in politics from the JFK campaign, too.
