We all know some of the great players Adelman has had on his teams. We also know a lot of his good teams must have drafted low in the draft like we are doing. However, does Adelman tend to draft safe guys, specific need guys, best athlete/ potential available despite, say other issues, etc? Anyone with any knowledge of Adelman's tendencies when drafting?
Generally speaking, African Americans. However, there have been notable Caucasian selections. Working with Yao will definitely be a new experience for Ades.
DUH! Since Yao is the only Asian Basketball Player now active in the NBA. Except that Yi will be coming here soon. That big Korean Player Jin and Wang ZZ didn't cut the mustard.
1998 - Jason Williams & Jerome James 1999 - Ryan Robertson 2000 - Hedo Turkoglu & Jabari Smith 2001 - Gerald Wallace 2002 - Dan Dickau & Corsley Edwards 2004 - Kevin Martin 2005 - Francisco Garcia...1 pick before Luther Head...dammit
I don't know much about Adelman's drafting, did he have much input on the specific player he wanted or did he just provide his GM a template to work with. Obviously his teams drafted well to have the success Adelman has had.
well here you go. it looks like 5 notable players out 26 picks. Kings 2005 Rnd Name College/HS/Country Note 1 Francisco Garcia Louisville 2004 Rnd Name College/HS/Country Note 1 Kevin Martin Western Carolina 2 Ricky Minard Morehead St. 2002 Rnd Name College/HS/Country Note 1 Dan Dickau Gonzaga 2 Corsley Edwards Central Connecticut State 2001 Rnd Name College/HS/Country Note 1 Gerald Wallace Alabama 2 Maurice Jeffers St. Louis 2000 Rnd Name College/HS/Country Note 1 Hidayet Turkoglu Turkey 2 Jabari Smith Louisiana State 1999 Rnd Name College/HS/Country Note 2 Ryan Robertson Kansas 1998 Rnd Name College/HS/Country Note 1 Jason Williams Florida 2 Jerome James Florida A&M Warriors 1996 Rnd Name College/HS/Country Note 1 Todd Fuller North Carolina State 2 Marcus Mann Mississippi Valley St 1995 Rnd Name College/HS/Country Note 1 Joe Smith Maryland 2 Andrew DeClerq Florida 2 Dwayne Whitfield Jackson State 2 Martin Lewis Seward Couty CC 2 Michael McDonald New Orleans Blazers 1993 Rnd Name College/HS/Country Note 1 James Robinson Alabama 2 Kevin Thompson North Carolina State 1992 Rnd Name College/HS/Country Note 1 David Johnson Syracuse 2 Reggie Smith Texas Christian 1991 Rnd Name College/HS/Country Note 2 Marcus Kennedy Eastern Michigan 1990 Rnd Name College/HS/Country Note 1 Alaa Abdelnaby Duke 1989 Rnd Name College/HS/Country Note 1 Byron Irvin Missouri 2 Cliff Robinson Connecticut
They have a very good GM, Geoff Petrie, who is responsible for personnel, including drafts, over in SAC.
Hmm... Alaa Abdelnaby, Michael McDonald, Marcus Mann, Jerome James, Ryan Robertson, and Dan Dickau... 6 guys with initials that are the same. Also, 3 Smiths (Reggie, Joe, and Jabari). I'm fairly sure we're looking at Jason Smith, Aaron Afflalo, Bobby Brown, Herbert Hill, and Sean Singletary.
didn't rudy have some input when he was coach? i guess it just depends on the coach. but i wasn't under the impression that adelman was a coach that had much influence on their drafts like JVG.
Depends on the situation... if you credit Adelman with every draft...then I'd be real concerned about the drafting Todd Fuller over Kobe Bryant move.
glynch, did you not learn anything from the Les introduction interview (i mean the Adelman introduction interview) we don't do anything without full agreement from everyone...well, except for that 34yr old GM of ours. screw him. What we are talking about is who does Les and Lindsey pick...and have you noticed that Les's name is spelled within Lindsey's. If you take the "indy" out of Lindsey (that is, the indyvidualism) you get Les! weird isn't it?
on another note... betcha Morey has been working all freaking year with his money ball on all the available NBA players and all the college players to get them to fit with this current team. now he has to throw all that out the window for a polar opposite coaching style. hope you enjoy your memorial day weekend Morey rewatching all that video and reworking all your money balls. Good thing he isn't married, yet. (or is he? hopefully he doesn't have a terrible two going on right now)
