What to do with Bonzi... if he never plays for us? Trade him? What team would have interest in a 1-year rental?

I'm imagining Bonzi + Howard for X trades...

If we trade Bonzi + Howard ... let 's take Lewis (FA 2007) + Collison instead! :D

Bonzi will pay off in the second half of the season and especially in the season. It's important we keep him so we can defeat the Spurs/mavs/suns/jazz in the playoffs.

T-Mac + Yao, mostly T-Mac attract stars to Houston. Stars who sign for much less then what they could be getting paid to win a ring. In Bonzi's case it is for both-to get a ring, and a lucrative contract next season when he signs somewhere else, due to making the Rockets go from the 8th worst team in the league to major contendors (what he envisioned when signing with us...knowing T-Mac and Yao were healthy.)

If we trade his ass, Houston (no matter who we have on our roster) will not attract any good free agents willing to take a pay cut in order to contend. They will see that both Swift and Bonzi wanted to contend with the Rockets, but both were traded the same year they signed with the Rockets. (one to the team he hated and wanted to leave)

Therefore, NO GOOD FREE AGENTS WILL SIGN WITH THE ROCKETS ORGANIZATION AGAIN! Vote NO when it comes to trading Bonzi.

this was added to the chron article.

    BONZI ON HOLD

Rockets forward Bonzi Wells was on the inactive list Friday for the third consecutive game and could remain there for a while.

Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy , who Oct. 23 guessed Wells would need two to three weeks to be ready to play, would not predict when Wells would be in shape enough to be on the active roster.

"He's just focusing on his conditioning, getting his legs," Van Gundy said. "I rushed him back. That's on me. I shouldn't have. I probably shouldn't have even put a timetable on it. That was probably another mistake.

"I'm going to let it work itself out ... and not put a timetable on it so it's not disappointing or people (ask) what's wrong.

"There's nothing wrong, other than he's got to get in the best possible shape so he can play as well as he can. In putting him out there, I made the wrong decision. I don't know why I did"

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    AIR TIME

Knicks coach Isiah Thomas , in paying the usual respects to the opposing coach, said he wished Jeff Van Gundy was still in broadcasting.

    "He was great," Thomas said.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    RE: BIG MEN

With Yao Ming going against Eddy Curry in a relatively rare matchup of full-sized centers, it inspired the usual complaints about the way big men are officiated. But this time, it was not Jeff Van Gundy doing the complaining.

"From what I've seen, Yao gets some tough calls that go against him, also," Knicks coach Isiah Thomas said. "With the bigger guys in the league, because the league has gone so small, it really favors the small people as opposed to the big people. I think the big people are really getting penalized in our game because I think every time they play against somebody of lesser weight or lesser size, they fall down and we feel sorry for them.

"There used to be a time guys like Yao, the big centers: Wilt (Chamberlain), Kareem (Abdul-Jabbar), Shaq (O'Neal), (Bill) Russell , if you weren't big enough to play against them, they got to punish you. Now we kind of take it easy on them"

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    FRANCIS SITS

Former Rockets guard Steve Francis missed Friday's game with a sprained ankle.

"I'm trying to be smart for longevity, not only for the season, but also for my career. I don't want another tweak to lead to something else.

"This is my gym, " Francis said at Toyota Center before mocking himself with one of his particularly brash comments from his days with the Orlando Magic.

"I built this place, right?" he said, laughing.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    INSIDE THE NUMBERS

    • 2 — Games over .500, a record that is the Rockets' best since they ended the 2004-05 season.

    • 40 — Rockets field goals, a season-high to go with a season-high 28 assists and a season-high 54.8 shooting percentage.

    • 3 — Games in which all five Rockets starters scored in double figures.

    • 3 — Games all of last season with all five starters in double figures.

    • 4 — Consecutive games in which the Rockets have outrebounding their opponents.

    • 4 — Rockets' winning streak against the Knicks, matching the longest against New York in franchise history.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    LAST WORD

With a sellout of Friday's game, the Rockets sold out their first two home games of the season for the first time since the 1997-98 season.

When was the last time a player was on the inactive roster because he was out of shape? I can't remember.

Bonzi looked like the second coming of Charles Barkley running down the court against the Mavs...it was an ugly sight. Props to JVG admitting he made the mistake but I believe it shows also how smart our coach is. Remember Jeff kept saying from the beginning 2 to 3 weeks for Bonzi meanwhile Bonzi was saying, "I'm a professional...been playing this game all my life and who needs preseason...blah, blah, blah..."

So, I believe that the coach put him out there since he kept saying he's ready and the fans kept asking "why isn't Bonzi playing." JVG let Bonzi see for himself that he was not ready and let us (fans) see as well. And, he didn't hurt the team in doing so...this allows the Rocks to get better with the 9-man rotation and let Jenny Craig work on Bonzi and all is well in Rocketland.

dont worry about bonzi he ''only'' gets paid 2.1 this year so he'll be ready to play second half of the season. Bonzi aint crazy, he knows he can go deep in the playoffs this year and maybe win it. So he'll be ready, T-mac will be rready, ( get used to this t-mac until the playoffs are coming, he'll go off then ) Yao is ready and will be ready, rest of the squad will do there part. Oh forgot about shane he's always ready.

I think Bonzi should be the new star of the sequel to Pulp Fiction:

PLUMP FICTION: THE BONZI WELLS INTERVIEW

REPORTER: “So, Bonzi, how do you like being in Houston?
BW: (snacking on a Twinkie) “Man, it’s been great. The guys have been terrific. When I first got there, they even gave me a gold watch as a present. (Several Rockets players giggling in the background). Hey, what are you guys laughing at? (Dikembe in the background, “If he only knew where that gold watch has been!”). Oh, sorry, got sidetracked. Yes, it’s been great. Great people, great climate, and great restaurants.”
REPORTER: “So, do you think you’re OK as far as playing shape?”
BW: “Nah, man, I’d say I’m pretty f**kin’ far from OK, you know?”
REPORTER: “Sorry, didn’t mean to imply anything. How did you feel about getting some playing time the other day?”
BW: “Felt good. Just got to let some of the other guys on the team know that when Bonzi’s on the floor, Bonzi needs to get the ball. (Glares over at Vassilis Spanoulis). Hey, you hear me talkin’ to you Billy Boy? If I don’t get that ball, I’ll go Medieval on your…oh, sorry again, got distracted.”
REPORTER: “That’s OK. So, do you agree that you need to get into better shape, maybe shed a few pounds?”
BW: “Nah, as a matter of fact, my goal is to get a big ole pot belly. The next time I go on the court, I’m going to wear a shirt two sizes too small just to accentuate it.”
REPORTER: “Umm…OK. Tell me, are you prepared to make an important…”
BW: (interrupting) “Hey, go get me that Krispy Kreme box.”
REPORTER: “You can’t ask any nicer than that?”
BW: “Oh, hey, excuuuse me. Pretty please, with sugar on top, get the f**kin box.”
(grabs the box and passes it to Bonzi)
REPORTER: “So, as I was saying, do you think you’ll make an important contribution to this team?”
BW: “Yeah. You see, the way I see it, my path, the path of the righteous player, is beset on all sides by the tyranny of evil coaches. I shall, in the name of charity, shepherd the weak teammates through the valley of darkness, for I am my brother’s keeper and the winner of previous playoff series. And I will strike down with great vengeance and furious dunks those who attempt to poison and destroy my teammates, AND YOU WILL KNOW MY NAME IS THE BONZI WHEN I LAY MY VENGEANCE UPON THEE!”
REPORTER: “Well, that’s, that’s…really good, Mr. Wells. I think that’s all for now, I, umm, wish you the best of luck with your new team.”
BW: “Hey, thanks, man. Hey, can you pass my $5.00 milkshake to me? Hey, where you going? Hey, next time, let’s do McDonald’s- I’ve got 5 Royales with Cheese waiting for me!!”

Yep, we're just going to release the hounds and unleash Bonzi, Novak, and VSpan in the playoffs. Teams will be bombarded by Bonzi's post scoring, Novak's 3-point bombs, and VSpan's playmaking and defense! Chris Paul, Jason Terry, Tony Parker or whatever playoff guard we'll be playing will never know what hit them when we send VSpan lock them down. :D

See my signatuere below as to what should be done with Bonzi.

Bonzi's got a big butt and he cannot lie. You other brothers can't deny it, either. It's up to Bonzi to decide what he wants to do this season. The Rockets don't really need his roster spot desperately, so, they can afford to wait until he is finally in shape. No need to do anything rash.

As for trades, I don't see it happening unless Bonzi himself asks for it.

Everybody needs to chill out with regards to Bonzi.

    He'll be ready to go eventually...5 games 10 games.......Whatever.

Wells has all the incentive in the world to get in shape and play his best ball.

    Just relax.
