I will be in Washington D.C. from the Sept 17-21. Where do you guys recommend I go? Please avoid the govt activities. I understand that Baltimore and surrounding cities are really close. Suggestions for nearby cities are welcomed. Thanks
Duck! I kid. I grew up in the DC area. There are countless museums and Baltimore is cool. I'm not into that kind of stuff but you make like it. You could also catch a Nationals game. They're a really good team.
To tell you the truth, I was pretty much a teenager when I left the area. At the time, I was more concerned with partying and getting some. I haven't been there in years but there should be something worth seeing/doing if you plan ahead. What are your interests? Not sure about an ESPN Zone.
Eat at Legal Seafood in the Inner Harbor area of Baltimore. Get the crabcakes, a local recommended this restaurant to us last time we were there. It was absolutely fantastic. The National Zoo is excellent, the FBI tour is cool and I enjoyed the spy museum. The Smithsonian Museums are really special and something everyone should take the opportunity to see.
I do remember going to the museums on field trips as a kid. They were pretty cool. Try this site dude: http://www.washington.org/ The Mets and Padres will be in town while you are there if you like baseball. You can also pull a Borat and go to the White House.
Well, even if you don't care about museums (which are free AND the best in the country) I would suggest to anyone visiting that they at least walk around the National Mall, see the monuments...especially if it's a nice day. There's usually lots of people around, tourists as well as locals, playing sports, picnicking, etc. It's my favorite place to just hang out. The Inner Harbor in Baltimore is another great place to just chill. If you're into shopping, Georgetown is probably where you want to go. Maybe head down to the Georgetown Waterfront. Lots of dining options in Georgetown as well. For nightlife you probably want to head to Adams Morgan or Dupont Circle. If you're into baseball I would definitely suggest going to see the Nationals or Orioles. Camden Yards is one of the best in the country, but Nationals Park is actually pretty nice as well. I can give some more advice if you have some specific questions. Oh, and yes there is an ESPNZone in downtown DC.
sorry, i will be out of town during that time.. the spy museum is cool, but it costs around $18 per person. (the regular national museums are free) I've heard the relatively new Newseum is cool, but that also costs.. haven't gone yet. Legal Seafood is a good place, but you can get to one of those in DC or in Arlington..don't hafta go up to Bmore for it. It's also a huge chain, so I don't know if that's what you're aiming for or not. The memorials (WW2 is my favorite) and the White House/Capitol/Monument can easily take up a day if you want. The Smithsonian museums can take up as much or as little time as you want, depending on how much time you spend there. The National Zoo is nice.. and all of those things are free. the National Aquarium is Baltimore is ok but I was semi-disappointed (and that one costs maybe $20 or $25). Brickskeller is a great place to grab some beers if that's your thing. It's just north of Dupont Circle, kinda between Georgetown and Dupont. Good Thai place to check out.. Thaiphoon. It's in the Dupont Circle area. The Georgetown area is nice to walk around (M street pretty much). You can also walk a couple of blocks down and walk along the Waterfront. The negative is that this area is about a 15 minute walk from the nearest subway station.. but it's nice. Yeah, check out the Nationals new stadium if you like baseball. King Street in Old Towne/Alexandria VA is also another walk-around type place like Georgetown. Just shops and restaurants and bars or whatever all around.. nice place on a nice day though. You can also take one of those Segway tours through DC. I haven't done it, but I've seen people on them. DC United might still be playing if you're interested in an MLS game at RFK.. I went to a game about 3 weeks ago. There's Mount Vernon (Washington's birthplace).. the National Cemetery.. some other things like that.
Yea, forgot about G'town. That place has a cool feel to it. Back in the day, Dupont Circle was where hookers and homos hung out. I think they cleaned it up though.
Thanks DC ...I will probably go to one or two museums . I really want to go to the ESPNZone. I want to do some shopping too. How is Arundel Mills? Is better/bigger than Katy Mills?
Dave n Busters is up at White Flint mall in Rockville MD. Not too far. Tysons Corner mall is nice and is relatively close by on the Virginia side. Probably the closest to Galleria-type in the area. (There's Tysons 1 which is a typical mall, but on the nice end..and then Tysons 2, which has all the high-end places like Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's, etc... and a nicer food court and nicer restaurants)
I'm sure there are Dave n Busters and stuff like that and there are plenty of big malls. You may want to call some kind of tourism agency or something if you are really interested in making the most of your time. You could visit Silver Spring. I lived there for several years when I was real young. So did The Franchise and we are almost the exact same age. I heard it's a lot nicer now than it used to be 20+ years ago. I wouldn't seriously go though. It's just a boring suburb.
Man, this is bringing back all kinds of memories. I remember White Flint mall and Tysons Corner. I remember them building the second one, too.
hit up five guys. its a fast food chain. theres one in national even so on the way out if your hungry at the airport. what kind of stuff do you want to do? do you have family?
