besides the laffy taffy do you guys have any suggestions on things to do in Atlanta? will be there during the weekend and staying in the Buckhead area. will i need a car or their subway system can get you around anywhere? what are some things to do during the day? of course what are some good places to eat....local places and not your tourist trap.
The places I like to eat in Atlanta are Fat Matt's Rib Shack (really good BBQ and blues bands at night) and Mary Mac's Tea Room (great Southern Comfort food).
You'll need a car unless you're simply going from the airport to downtown. In my view that's the most useful thing about Marta - the easy trip into downtown. Be careful at the College Park stop - keep a hand on your wallet there. There's some touristy stuff like the CNN tour and the Coke museum that may or may not interest you. There are hot women in Atlanta. Many hot women.
1. Get drunk in Buckhead, 2. After the bars close, go get some Krystal Burgers and give former Falcons DB Eugene Robinson a call. He's bound to show you a good time.
I was very underwhelmed by them....and I really didn't notice a lot while there, and I've spent close to 6 or 7 months there.
The Varsity has good hotdogs... I really enjoyed Gladys Knights' Chicked & Waffles... If you're into retro/one-of-a-kind sneakers (Nike Dunks, AF1, etc.), check out Walter's downtown...
They closed the Gold Club, but I think Cheetah is where it's at. some atlantanian confirm this for me.
The Gold Club is now a church or chapel or something. The Varsity is okay to check out if you've never been, but stick with the hot dogs. The new Home Depot aquarium isn't that amazing; too many people, but interesting building. Buckhead Diner is a great place for some upscale diner food (melted maytag on fresh potato chips is awesome). Pacific Rim is downtown and has some nice sushi and other Asian dishes. Check out a Hawks game -- yeah, I know, but you'll get a GREAT seat. It's still one of the better places to watch a game (from the arena aspect). Turner Field kind of sucks. If you're into museums, the High Museum just completed an expansion. Also the Fox Theater downtown will have stuff every now and then. There's the MLK National Historic Site. Also World of Coca-Cola, but you would be dealing with annoying tourist people from 37 countries. Underground Atlanta isn't that great. Six Flags Over Georgia is okay, but not exactly close. Someone mentioned Glady's and Ron's Chicken and Waffles; real good food! There's the ESPNZone next to Cheesecake Factory. Granted, there ain't a whole lot to do in ATL that you might find interesting compared to a place like Houston. I can't speak for the bars, clubs, or strip clubs, but I'm sure they're better than decent since it is the South.
Of course I have been to Cheetah in Atlanta. There is no touching. Yes, let me repeat that: the women will not touch you during the table dances. They women are completely naked, yes, but let me repeat, they will not touch you. If you like that kind of thing, you'll have a great time there.
Atlanta has the best bar in America: http://www.clermontlounge.net/ There's a pretty good bar (with great bar food) right across the street too. It's called The Local. Better maybe to put a buzz on at The Local and then walk across the street to the Clermont. I had a great time in Atlanta. Too bad you're staying in Buckhead. Buckhead sucks.
