A really New York thing to do on New Year's is to get really drunk and throw up in a subway car. That's really cool!

Seriously. There are tons of stuff to do on New Years. It really depends on what you want and how much money you're willing to drop. What do you have in mind?

Do NOT leave NYC without having a seven dollar cup of hot chocolate from La Maison du Chocolat. It's worth every penny and more. They fly the stuff in from Paris, but I swear, either location in NYC is better than the ones I had in Paris. There's a shop in Rockefeller Center and one on Madison Ave.

Other than that, get out and walk, walk, walk. Also.....Christian or not......go check out St. John's the Divine for an awe inspiring take on Gothic architecture.

Man, I'm jealous. We spent about a week there in June, and had a terrific time. Yes, it's a "tourist thing," but go to the top of the Empire State building. I always do, and I always love it. Amazing views. Go to the Guggenheim Museum, and walk around Central Park for awhile. See some plays, and try to buy tickets, like, yesterday. Eat... a lot!

New Year's in New York... wow!

yuck, thats so pretentious. if you're paying more than 50 cents for acup of chocolate, you should be one of those people with 2 last names.

If you want the real New Yorker experience, take the G train and get off in East New York. You'll have a real good story for your friends.

Well, I've seen it all now. In my nearly 8 years here, Pole would be the last person I'd expect to be called pretentious.

As a one-time thing...if you can be pretentious for seven bucks...do it!

New York on new years eve. I'm jealous.

Go to Times Square. Wear a Rockets hat and wave. We'll let you know if we see you.

I'm probably going to be flamed here but if you do anything, do NOT be in Times Square at midnight. It is a nightmare.

To be in a decent place to see anything you have to show up at 6pm and stand around for 6 hours. No bathrooms, no alcohol (the cops will bust you) and tons of people pushing and shoving. Not to mention that it's usually freezing Fuking cold!

Find a cool bar or club and hang out. They'll have the ball drop on a TV. A lot of clubs have a pre fixed price for the night; something like $150 for three hours of open bar with party favors and Champagne toast at midnight. A lot of Hotels have ballrooms with these kinds of parties. But they can run from $200 a person to $1500 a person.

Like I said, it's really about what you want and how much you want to spend.

considering mark's IN ny....and i've only been there in summer...might want to heed his advice ;).

My budget's more along the lines of $7 hot chocolates, than $300 + shingdings...so i'd be out in the cold (just to say i'd done it!). But only once!

hear hear! Worst place to be in the city on New Years. I used to work at the Morgan Stanley HQ on Broadway and 47th. They'd give us special passes if we wanted to celebrate New Years inside the building. Some people I knew would sell those passes for like 200 bux, which was kinda stupid, since bleh, well it was just stupid.

you know, i think new years is a lame holiday. personally i don't need an excuse to get totally hammered, stand out in the cold in times square or vomit all over the subway. hell, that's just a normal winter's day in the big apple. big deal. just watch your wallet, new york is extremely dangerous. if you are travelling with women, advise them to stay in their hotels after dark. have fun.
