Couldn't pull up the search function, as I'm sure its been discussed, but I'm going to L.A. at the end of March and would like some ideas on what to do...Will only really have the nights and one full day to do touristy type stuff (last day), so any help would be much appreciated... We're flying in and out of LAX and we'll be in Anaheim for the weekend and hope to stay in LA the last night, so any hotel recommendations would be great...Thanks in advance for helping a brotha out......
Well, don't try to take the Deluxe Tour of Warner Bros. studios because they aren't doing that this month, apparently because they don't have enough tour guides trained. My new wife and I went on one of those Starline tours today with the Bus tour of the "Stars Homes" followed by a brief tour of Sony Pictures Studios (on the old MGM lot) and then a walking tour of Hollywood Blvd. around the Kodak Theater/Grauman's Chinese Theater. It was fun, but I'm easily impressed (Hey! It's Nakatomi Tower from Die Hard!!!! Oh My God!!!! Holy Crap!!! It's Alfred Molina's House!!!! Can this get any better!!!!) I also wouldn't recommend going whale watching, but my reason for not recommending it is because it turns out I get seasick... and then I apparently had an anxiety attack and they had to turn the boat around and rush back to shore to let me off. Tomorrow, we're going to the Reagan Library.
They have the best Six Flags, IMO...unless you got kids, I'd definitely check that out before i went to Disneyland.
It depends on what day or night. Go to the Farmer's market/The Grove. Go see a UCB west ASscat show. Go the PAramount ranch and see the old west movie town, and then take a hike around the hillls woods and mountains. Check out Olvera street which is like a Mexican Market. Those are all things you can do for little to no money, and are a ton of fun.
Thanks for the bump...I was about to do it as I've been working my arse off the past couple of days...Anyway, we only have the nights, so I'm assuming we'll stay in Anaheim, but I know I do want to see the Walk of fame...Didn't know about the Reagan Library, but will look it up... Hell, I still need to find a good hotel...
If you do go to Disney, don't make the California Adventure park a priority. It's a Six Flags environment with a grand total of one rollercoaster. (which was a good one but its still only one) Otherwise, it was pretty lame considering disneyland is right next door and is actually unique.
What about nightlife...Any particular bars we should check out...What side of town is the best place to hang out...I'm not talking movie star watching, just chillin' at a good patio bar/rest. I'm out until morning...
You might also want to visit the Nixon Birthplace/Library in Yorba Linda which is not far from Anaheim.
rrj_gamz....tell me what you are into/what kind of recommendations you need. I lived there from 1986-98. Might have some good restaurant and club recommendations for you, depending on what you are into.
If you like jazz or blues music, be sure to check out the Knitting Factory. It's located on Hollywood next to the Chinese Theater.
We're all a bunch of brothers livin in a cool way Along with six million others in this place called l.a. L.a. is the place, sets my mind ablaze For me, it's a race through a cotton pickin maze The town makes me jump, it's got a bunch of bad chicks Well sure, it's got some chumps but I still get my kicks My body loves to scrump when I lick the ripe pick Like a come on a thumb Poppin hump, hump, hump, pop out The action never stops, I'm as wild as can be cux I'm shooting for the top and my best friend is flea Oom chucka willy knew the balls to pop But he never met the tree so he never be-bopped out!
Roscoes Chicken n Waffles Pinks Chilidogs El Coyote Imperial Seafood (for dim sum) ...and there's always In n Out......
I like a little bit of everything, but would like to try something typical LA. Don't want to break the bank on drinks/food, but want to enjoy the experience...More than likely, it'll be Sunday night for the nightlife, so something Jazzy, trendy, etc...Thanks for all your help guys...
