I know Dallas has a reputation for not having a lot of tourism, but I'm curious to see if anyone has any suggestions for things to do there. My wife and I will be in town for a couple of days with nothing to do, and outside of Six Flags or a ballgame, I'm not sure what there is to do off the top of my head. Ideas? Suggestions? Thanks, ClutchFans!
Dallas is Dull-ass hell. If you wanna catch a Mavpricks or Cowgirls game and kidnap Romo or Dirk Celtic Pride style, be my guest.
I think the Fair is in town until the 17th. That would be fun get some fried butter/beer I wanted to taste those Kool-Aid Pickles I read about. The fair and a sporting event is a good way to waste time.
besides leave.... the state fair is there until next sunday. You can always check out where JFK was shot.
Right now is the only time I would actually like to be in Dallas. I've never gone to the state fair before. I'm sure it's not as exciting as I would hope, but any other time in Dallas would just be terrible.
I would go to a football game and take great pleasure in watching their team choke on giant plasma screens.
Beat me to it. Though I was going to say, "Debbie managed to find something to do...." Alas. As much as Dallas may suck, I managed to have a memorable time in a week I was stuck there. I visited the grassy knoll, which I didn't think would be a big deal, but the history of the place really got me. I obsessed on the assassionation for a couple weeks after that. I'm interested in history, generally, though. I had that same feeling went I happened to visit Grant's tomb in Cleveland. I also went to downtown Ft Worth which was pretty cool and much cooler than Dallas'. And, I had a pretty interesting conversation about impending death and about chemotherapy and it's impact on cognition with an old family friend who was dying of cancer. He died a couple weeks after my visit. You probably can't recreate that one.
Dallas is like Houston in the sense of there not being much to do outside of shopping or going to bars/restaurants. If the State Fair is still going on, it's a pretty good time. You can eat fried everything and the beer is cold.
Dallas 6th Floor Museum (the book depository is now a museum to JFK and the assasination - very somber, but a great experience) The Dallas World Aquarium - very, very nice..but DO NOT CONFUSE THIS with the Dallas Aquarium..yech The Dallas Arboretum has a nice fall pumpkin festival thing going on The State Fair of Texas - if your in Dallas, you can't possibly miss this right now Fort Worth much nicer than Dallas Sundance Square - Nighttime stuff, clubs, restaurants, free parking & security - safe atmoshpere, great Jazz club directly beside Simply Fondue The Stockyards - kind of touristy - Western area with clubs at night and family friendly sights during the day - 2 times a day cattle drive through the area, cowboys in full costume, cattle stall maze, etc..free sites with shops Cultural district - Art district better than Dallas Ft. Worth Zoo - Top 10 zoo in the country - better than Dallas Zoo La Familia - great reasonably priced TexMex with great atmosphere - not touristy, & great, great food in the cultural district My Favorite - Ye Olde Bush & Bull Pub (in the cultural district) lots of Australians, English, and Scots - locals bring their dogs in with them, decent selection and hardcore darts players - excellent Jukebox selection Arlington - Cowboys Stadium tour $17 a person..but interesting Six Flags Ripleys Believe or Not & Wax Palace - Kinda neat
