I'm in community college right now and looking to finish my basics and enlist in the military either under the Army or Marines branch, I have I hard time choosing which is better for me. I plan to major in Logistic Management and both branch have Logistics jobs I can choose in but I have a hard choice finding the difference between them, if any veterans read this post, I'd like to receive your input on your experience in terms of training and boot camp. I'm not trying to decides who's better, but what is better for me in terms of jobs both branch provides.
Army supposedly is physically less demanding, and also easier in terms of being able to choose a profession, especially if you score well. In the Marines, you become more of a badass, but also have a high likelihood of becoming cannon fodder and donking off since they always send Marines in first. You could always finish your degree first and go to officer school to really increase your pay and lower your chances of getting killed. If you're smart enough and strong enough, do the Marines path for a challenge if it fits your personality. Personally though, I'd take the easier route.
Did you used to serve in the military? Well, you say it's easier to choose a profession for Army, but I feel like I certainly do have the mentality and physicality to be a Marine. I understand there's pros and cons of both branches and this poll can really be biased.. eh, I don't know so far.
I did not and I salute you. I have let's see, several close friends and acquaintances in the Marines, Navy, Army, Air Force, and Coast Guard, who have enlisted or became officers. I'm being honest here. If you're smart enough and have the resources, finish college first and become an officer. Do you want to be a boss or a yes man? You don't have to be a genius to be an officer. From the personal stories I've heard, there are dumbass officers too. And it would suck if you're a smart enlisted man and get stuck with a dumbass boss.
at the end of the day its not what branch your in its your military occupation. As a Marine grunt, I give more respect to them than a Marine admin or a supply clerk etc... Just because your a Marine does not mean your bad ass. Majority of Marines are in a non combat mos... meaning admin clerk, moter t, intel, supply, cook.... This ain't world war 2 where they reinforced the line with cooks. If your a female... well your **** out of luck because you are not allowed to have our job by act of congress.
My uncle did logistics for the National Guard and has turned into a very lucrative career doing logistics for big construction companies. No advice, just an anecdote.
First off, go airforce. Everyone I know in the Army says to do that. If you want to be in either, choose Army. Have you considered Guard/Reserve and having a civilian carrer in logistics in addition to an Army Career?
I'd talk to recruiters from both branches and try to find out which one has the biggest need for that field and what ASVAB scores are needed. I'm pretty sure that you take the test and get assigned a job well before you have to sign an actual contract, so if you choose a service and they assign you to a field you don't like, you can always cut bait and try the other service. They won't be happy about it because they've spent time on you, but it's an option. FWIW, I've read that the Army is the worst branch as far as giving you a job that has absolutely nothing to do with your MOS. But I've also heard that the Marines typically don't assign specific jobs before you enlist. They'll put you into a general field and your MOS will be given to you during boot camp.
Navy! From knowing people in both Army and Marines it does sound like the Marines are physically more demanding and there is more of a commitment to being a Marine. While there are several non-combat roles in both Army and Marines every Marine is a rifleman and has to keep up with combat training whereas the army that doesn't seem to be that big of a deal. My advice is if you are just looking to get into the military for job skills and other benefits join the Army. If you are looking to get in for a way of life join the Marines.
There are hardly any non infantry jobs in the USMC. Their support roles are taken care of by other branches. If you want to be in Logistics you better not choose the USMC.
If you want to see action against alien races in strange galaxies, Marines appear to be your best bet.
A huge benefit, IMO. With an experienced player on difficulty settings lower than legendary, your chances of survival ratchet upward.
reminded me of a joke my navy budy told me. What does Marine stand for? My Ass Rides In Navy Equipment.
Navy or air force. You have less of a chance getting your ass killed for nothing or winding up so wounded or ptsd that any future job plans are meaningless.
