A friend and I were talking yesterday about 'the best' movies, tv shows, etc. of different decades when in the course of our conversation, it became apparent that neither of us yet had any idea what this decade was called.

I remember that people had difficulty predicting what it would be called 4 or 5 years ago, but surely we should have expected some sort of consencus on this by now, but if such a thing exists, I am completely unaware of it. But it only just occured to me that we are several years into this decade, and I don't think we;ve deicided what to call it.

Does anyone know that this decade is commonly called? Had anyone else forgotten about the fact that we haven't arrived at a commonly ussed phrase? Does anyone have any new suggestions?

I like it. Is that a suggestion, or have I missed it being commonly used?

Well, we haven't come up with something good in 4 years, so this thread will probably go nowhere.

Agreed. I will never say the "naughties." That is just stupid. I heard way back in the '90s that this would be called the "oughts." So I think that is what we ought to call it.

My Grandma used to refer to her 1907 birthyear as ought 7. I have also heard it refered to it that way in books and movies as well. Makes sense to use it again.

I will forever refer to it as the "2K's" in honor of Tooky's.

as a side issue we all pronounce 1995 as Nineteen Ninety Five right.............

then why the hell isn't 2004 pronounced

    TWENTY O FOUR

    use it, it's great.....

Mainly because O is a letter not a number. Now of you would have said twenty zero four, I might have agreed.
