This guy sucks and he thinks he is good. He gave up 3 runs today versus the Indians and I don't care it was the first game, Last postseason he said he pitched well versus the Cardinals when he was horrible. Munro, Redding, Duckworth all suck and they should give the 5th spot to Astacio because he 25 and has a good arm. What the hell do the Astros see in this guy.
Already bent after one ST game. Hilarious! What do the Astros see in Munro? Aside from NJR's excellent reply, they see a possible #5 starter. Not everyone is Roy or Andy.
5th starters, as a rule, suck. In general, either you have a mediocre journeyman or a young kid over their head. These guys aren't good pitchers, or even average. If they were, they wouldn't be 5th starters...
Yeah, the Astros lost 7-3 http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASAp...d=955680&vkey=spt2005gamer&fext=.jsp&c_id=hou
The other thing that adds value to a guy like Munro as opposed to rushing a "young stud" fresh off the farm is that Munro will be: More consistent (mediocre, but consistent) because his lack of great stuff means that he's had to get really consistent with his mechanics to get this far. He won't go John Rocker with his mechanics. He won't get emotional, overthrow, and cause himself injury, or have a bad start and go into a funk. He's been in the majors off and on for four years and as always been steady whether starting or comming out of the bullpen. He doesn't have a major league ego, so he can spend time starting or in the bullpen, and even deal with fake stints on the DL without causing problems. This combined with the previous point reduce the chance of a Jose Lima redux. He is, therefore, a versitile "inning eater" which is the most underrated quality of a MLB pitcher. You always need people that you can leave out there to get pummled when your bullpen is worn out, or you have guys nursing minor injuries. On top of this he's inexpensive. He's also religious, apparently, which generally equates with not taking the rookies on drinking binges at tittie bars the night before their first start. This from baseballreference.com: (The CJ referenced is CJ Nitkowski, a good example of a less consistent 5th starter type) His career 4.88 era actually isn't that bad in this day and age. He fills a role like Tony Banks for the Texans, or Charles Jones used to for the Rockets. The only difference is that in baseball, the role gets more play.
I'm not a big fan of Munro. And it doesn't take a genious to know he doesn't have very good stuff. After all, he is competing for the 5th position. I have been to 2 games where he was the pitcher, and we lost both. NEVER again will i go when Munro is on the mound.
munro isn't that good but i'd like to see his numbers from last season vs. other 5th starters. i imagine he's atleast middle of the pack. bottom line is if all we're worrying about in our starting rotation is who #5 is then there isn't a problem. i'm more interested in how our offense does cause our starting pitching should be fine.
Providing of course Pettite doesn't have another freak injury and stays healthy. And that Clemens is still somewhat solid.
Yes he did. In the first game of spring training. What in the hell are you guys worrying about? I'd be willing to bet that Roger Clemens gets hit around a bit today. I'm afraid to see what you guys say after today. "Offer up the Astros for contraction! Roger Clemens gave up 3 runs in his first inning of his first spring training game! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"
