I've been trying to think about just Local Politics and government. Not just houston . . but just the Towns/City/Counties/etc What should be their TOP Priority? Crime Prevention Education Public Health Public Services those kind of things. Those are still too general though. [well come are.] Rocket River
I guess the top two would be public services.. just because you have to have public services for a city along with education. I think a quality educations system also helps reduce crime..
i would agree with chance's assessment of this thank you very much ok..this is just getting stupid, now!
Education seemed to be a state function in the past but more and more the local governement has to step in for funding since a lot of states are having problems. But public services is the big one. Keep the citizens safe and happy.
Ok So on the list of Public Services which comes first? Streets? In Fact .. . Public Services is a pretty broad term What *are* the local governments responsibilities to the public in this department They don't do the mail that is Federal Licenses . . i think is state Other than Fixing the Streets . . . .Making sure the lights run correctly Water and Electricity? Recruiting new business to the city is a biggie to me as well Rocket River
Fire and police as well as the local courts (mayors court) shoudl also be included. Water is a local service. Streets definetely so.
Well, if it's Dallas, the priority should be to find ways to cut off services to South Dallas while finding ways to give millions upon millions to wealthy white men. Perhaps they could even give up development and taxing authority for DOWNTOWN to a private organization backed by the guy who publishes the local newspaper. But you asked what the priorities should be, and I would say "whatever is the opposite of what Dallas does."
Water and Roads before Police and Fire Department? Public Safety is 1st: Medical, Police, Fire Education, Water, Roads Rocket River
In a lot of towns, the hospitals and the like are privately owned and operated (or at least privately operated by contract). And since the schools have their own government and taxing authority, I tend to think of them as separate from what I would consider "local government", even if they are often confined to one locality (though the Plano school district encompasses towns other than Plano. The Lewisville ISD is quite large, actually, too.)
i don't disagree with your assessment. it's just what came to mind when i think of public services, in general. you're right...police and fire come right at the top. education...left to the state and to the local districts primarily. not much of a municipal affair.
