Okay, here's the story. Apparently, I know the daughter of Hakeem Olajuwon's personal housekeeper. I've known her for a while, but I didn't know she was so "close" to the Dream! I'm going to be fixing a few laptops up for her, and she said she'd get Dream to sign something for me . . . so what should it be?

    The first thought is a basketball, but that's so obvious -- everyone gets a basketball signed . . . but there's a reason why -- it's ideal!

But I was thinking about perhaps something different (if I can come up with something better). I don't have a Dream jersey, but I do have his autobiography, and a bunch of Rockets stuff. I also have a bunch of those signs from the championship years -- "Believe It!" and so on . . .

I suppose I'll go buy an NBA ball and get it signed, but if someone can come up with something better, I'm very interested.

If I were you, I'd find an official jersey on Ebay from the red and gold days.

I would gp and eBay and find a piece of the Summit floor.

I had the same problem when I used to get stuff signed, for dream I ended up choosing the 2000 Rockets Yearboock w/ Moses, Rudy, calvin, and dream. I got Dream to sign and calvin, Rudy was sad/mad over a loss so I didn't bother him. I also chose I pen/ink drawing that I drew of him and an 8x10 of me dream and my brother.....then I also have dream on an origional '99 Rokets compilation photo..mini ball..pennant..damn I have more dream auto's than I remember.

If you can get multiple things signed, I'd try to find authentic Rockets jerseys (both red and gold and the pajama versions) and an authentic Raptors jersey.

Have him autograph all three. Purchase a huge frame and frame all three side-by-side. That would be quite a collector's item!

Whatever you get signed, also get something personalized signed by him.

For instance, when my brother and sister in laws got married, they had a signed photo of Willie Nelson and it said, "Congrats on you Wedding, Willie Nelson" or something like that at their wedding.

They had it framed and at the wedding and it was the talk of the town. Plus its cool on their wall.

Have Hakeem sign something like...Thanks for being a fan, or Go Rockets or something, or if you have a big event, have him congratulate you on it and sign it. It'll be worth a lot more to you than any regular autograph's monetary worth.

BTY: The Jersey idea is good, but those things are expensive, and you'd want to make sure it was authentic.

An official NBA ball would be good, but obvious.

Is there anyway you can personally meet him? Like get a picture with you and him then get him to sign it? That would be cool.

Other ideas: Championship hats or T-shirts from the glory days. Any Sports Illistrated with him on the cover, The "Clutch city" newspaper...but even cooler and more of a conversation piece, see if he'd sign the "Choke City paper from a few days before...bet there's not a lot of those around :)

Let us know what you get.

Get him to autograph the asterisk next to David Robinson's MVP trophy.
