Right now, looking to Toyota Center from the Downtown Central Business district, this would be your view.....

On this Tuesday, Feburary 27, 2007, that will all change. On this day, ground will be broken on Houston Pavilions, a mixed use developement that will also include a Yao's Restaurant among other tenants.

In October 2008, your view from Downtown looking towards Toyota Center will look like this.....

Looks like the game experience at Toyota Center is about to change for the better....congrats Rockets fans on this huge addition .

A parking garage is also being built as part of this massive $200 million dollar developement.

As for the traffic.....well, c'mon, this is Houston, traffic is nothing new for any of us.

This just makes me more glad I stopped working downtown 3 years ago. Looks like more people need to catch the Park and Ride.

BTW, make sure to watch your local news on this Tuesday evening. Like I mentioned earlier, they will break ground on this project this Tuesday around lunch time.

Well, the developers are saving the biggest surprise for then. Two huge tenants anchoring the project will be announced then. This is on top of a tennants list that already includes the following:

    HOUSE OF BLUES
    LUCKY STRIKE
    YAO'S RESTAURANT AND BAR
    MAGGIANO'S LITTLE ITALY
    CORNER BAKERY
    MCCORMICK & SCHMICKS
    LAWRY'S PRIME RIB

That's just a few, most of the list will be revealed at ground breaking

and BTW, Keep an eye out for my ugly mug as well....I will be there.

And one more thing......the developer, EDG, has only built one other project like it.

If you've ever been to Denver, Colorado, there's a good chance you might have visited Denver Pavilions on the 16th Street Mall.

The concept is virtually the same, the scope and size of the project in Houston is much larger....ahem, Texas-Sized shall I say?

Parking and traffic problems? Tell me about it. In Pittsburgh, it was recently revealed they're adding the city's first ever casino to the Noth Shore area right next to PNC Park and Heinz Field.

There's only two ways in and out of that are and both are now guaranteed to be congested and intolerable. I don't want to even think about what the parking situation will be like. Hopefully the same won't happen for you folks in Houston.

Whenever there's an awesome project of infrastructure in the city of houston, whether it be a mall, stadium, or rail... there's always somebody to b**** about something.

Traffic? Parking? Seriously... would you rather downtown be a series of parking lots? I still remember the uproar when MMP was first built, and how all these "diehard" astro fans would give up their season tickets due to the lack of a huge parking lot like the dome had. (little did they know that parking downtown for a baseball game is FAR easier than it was at the dome... and the dome didn't have 40,000 people going to every game).

The fact remains that there are plenty of other cities with far more advanced urban areas than Houston does... and they all find ways to deal with the apparent lack of parking or increased difficulty in driving. (even though this is a small 3 block area of development, and there are still several other parking options IN ADDITION to the freaking huge garage attached to this project).

They could move the Fox Sports Grill in the Galleria to there.

Well, if your nat happy about this project because it takes away some of your parking spots, I sure hope you didnt used to park near the GRB Convention Center. Because the new city park, Discovery Green, will open around the summer of 2008, taking away more of your spots. On top of that, the 37-stroy Park Tower Condo project will be built at the front of the park

Essentially, by the time the tipoff to the NBA 2008-09 season arrives, Downtown Houston will have a new look and feel altogether. Gone will be alot of parking lots, replaced by alot of soon-to-be destinations in this part of town. Quite Simply, Dallas Maverick fans have the Victory Project to look forward to surrounding the AAC. This development downtown mirrors whats happening around AAC in Dallas.

    Both already under construction.....

Rumor has it that ESPNZone is one of the two major tenants EDG will announce duering Tusday's ground breaking.

The other was for Virgin Megastore.

Unfortunately, I cant confirm either. However, I did used to have a family memeber who did work for Virgin in NYC. Before she left the company, she was actively being trained on how to manage the opening of a new store. She did say that Virgin was indeed looking at placing a store here in Houston and did mention the Houston Pavilions project by name. She has since moved on to bigger and better things so I dont know where the Virgin/Houston thing stands at this time....
