in light of a lot of religious discussion - just wantin to know what denominations we have here and what diversity of religions we have. i understand there's a lot of Atheists or whatever, so just put that if you want. this isn't meant to be a place to argue religious viewpoints...just more of a survey. me, i'm Christian - Seventh-Day Adventist.
It would be cool to hear a description of what the denomination believes from someone who believes it... just an idea.
good idea. Seventh-Day Adventists are Christian, so there is the common beliefs that Christ died for us and is our redeemer. i don't know how to explain everything other than saying the things that make us stand out - as in doctrinal differences rather than similarities. the basis is all the same, love the Lord your God with all your heart, love your neighbor, fruits of the Spirit, Great Commission (matt 28:19,20), etc...but the differences are: -go to church on Saturday, seeing it as the seventh-day, which God appointed a holy day of rest...as stated in the ten commandments (exodus 20:8-11). -believe in following the dietary principles as stated in leviticus (many adventists are vegetarian, many others - me included - eat meat, but not "unclean" meat such as pig, exotic seafood, etc). -believe in the 2nd coming of Christ in the clouds - dead rise first, christians raised up to heaven. anyways, there are "27 fundamental beliefs of Seventh-Day adventists"...so if you wanna check them out: here they are: http://www.adventist.org/beliefs/
when i stated "christians raised to heave" i didn't mean to say it like that - i like many others in the church believe there will be many many more in heaven.
Muslim O yea, i have a question what denomination was James Monroe ( the president) I need it for a project.....
Christian - nondenominational. Mostly "evangelical", though that can be used to mean a lot of things these days. My tradition fits in best with the Evangelical Free denomination, but there's not one of those churches in every town. Other than that, my beliefs are probably closest to Baptist. I go to Catholic churches with my husband, and it's been a real eye-opener in terms of the way other people practice Christianity, but I don't feel "called to convert". My faith was fine as it was. We can't get every little thing right, but it's a pity when Christians focus on the differences instead of the similarities. My beliefs are probably fairly traditional and conservative, but I don't want to be "scrupulous" to the point where I'm following the letter of the law, but not the spirit. Sometimes it's hard to know where to stand on certain issues, and it's depressing to think of all the religions and denominations out there, most of them probably way off base and most of the others wrong about a lot of things, and trying to pick the right one and hope you chose correctly. What I believe it comes down to is that we have to choose the best we can, live our life with Christian principles thinking of others before ourselves, and then continually ask God to forgive us - because we will screw up. We are going to remain sinners no matter what we do, and we may not be able to see our own sin. That's why I believe we are all dependent on God's mercy. so hopefully that's right... I don't want to get to the end of my life and find out it was all for nothing because I chose the wrong path.
Roman Catholic who accepts the reforms of Vatican II and thinks there needs to be a Vatican III(because of the molestation problems).
