If I want to start a new company that makes bearings for drills for the oil industry. What regulations get in my way.

I'm thinking OSHA, API and ASME and whatever Construction Engineering certification board there is. You might want to check if the local law or business schools have small business development centers that support this stuff.

I have no clue, but I'm sure my dad would know since he has been designing and building oil rigs for 30+ years.

Obama and the regulatory boogeyman will tax and regulate you out of business.

I'll play along. A quick search of the Federal Register led me here....

    http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/browse/col...llapsed=false&selectedYearFrom=2011&ycord=890

Off the top of my head....you're looking at having to most likely comply with regulations in all of these different categories for your hypothetical business...

    Title 1 - General Provisions (500 parts...111 pages)
    Title 2 - Grants and Agreements (5800 parts...415 pages)
    Title 4 - Accounts (201 parts...164 pages)
    Title 5 - Administrative Personnel (9901 parts...3 volumes...920 pages, 685 pages, 1139 pages, respectively)
    Title 10 - Energy (1800 parts...4 volumes...1065 pages, 893 pages, 784 pages, 1115 pages, respectively)
Title 13 - Business Credit and Assistance (500 parts...834 pages)
    Title 15 - Commerce and Foreign Trade (2301 parts...3 volumes...501 pages, 965 pages, 586 pages, respectively)
    Title 16 - Commercial Practices (1750 parts...2 volumes...799 pages, 911 pages, respectively)
    Title 20 - Employees Benefits (1010 parts...3 volumes...668 pages, 1444 pages, 1292 pages, respectively)
    Title 29 - Labor (4907 parts...9 volumes...674 pages, 284 pages, 496 pages, 961 pages, 547 pages, 413 pages, 751 pages, 1257 pages, respectively)

Granted, this is just for 2011.

And granted, there could probably be more categories your business could fall in to, depending on who you talk to and what the aims of your business are (whether you are inventing/trademarking your product, whether you intend to take your company international, whether your factory/business is deemed a polluter, etc.)

Piece of cake. I don't know what everybody's complaining about.

Granted, you don't understand too much how the federal register even works, and aren't afraid of looking like an idiot when you try to sound smart.

Seems to be rule # 5 of the playbook..."Ridicule is man's most potent weapon."

It's not really ridicule if it's true, tallanvor.

It might be effective if it wasn't so transparent, FranchiseBlade.

Nothing transparent about it my dear uolj, you wouldn't understand what you were talking about if a 5-inch volume of the CFR codified your mom where the sunshine laws don't apply.

Get a better schtick next time brah. This one is tired, and is uninteresting, and thats' about the biggest insult you can suffer in this game.

my dear mc mark, nice try. Rule # 7: "A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag." You might take some of your hero's advice.

    Your act is tired son.

And yet, you still haven't addressed what I posted earlier...you've resorted to ridicule and personal insults. Real classy.

So I'll play your game...because I guess this is all that losers like you have left to fall back on: distract from the argument with flailing insults and attempts at ridicule, and hope that the substance of the discussion falls off of the current page of the thread.

Doesn't your cycle get a little old? Are you not you bored with the same routine? Might be time to get out of your parents' basement and get some fresh air. Time for a new strategy.

I would say that it's bed time
