The thread about buying store brand products gave me the idea to ask what reduced fat/calorie/sodium/sugar-free products at the store do you buy and find comparable to its fatty counterpart? And which ones are no good? This may be helpful to those of us with Resolutions to lose weight.

    The good:
    reduced-fat oreos - can't taste a difference
    reduced-fat ruffles - same thing
reduced-fat tostitos - can tell a slight difference but still tastes good. too bad they're over $1 more for a smaller bag. no thanks.
milk - no lighter than 1% though

    The bad:
have tried a reduced-fat and sodium peanut butter. couldn't stomach either.
ranch dressing - i can eat it and usually do since ranch is so fatty but don't enjoy it even almost as much.
i'd rather drink water than a diet soda.

    fat free milk

btw & fwiw - most "reduced fat" foods are still not healthy. To sum it up, it has a shelf life and can be kept in your pantry... bad news.

That is true, sometimes they add more junk to reduced fat to make it taste better. I always study the labels pretty thoroughly. I'm a geek like that. :)

I forgot to add that Daisy's reduced fat sour cream is pretty decent.

the bad: low fat milk...the taste is foul...literally tastes like it came from an anorexic cow

I buy the Smart Ones and the Lean Cuisine frozen meals and diet sodas. Though everything else is regular stuff. I have other people to feed who are not concerned about losing weight.

    Fat free milk.

Frozen naked chicken breats (healthy not reduced fat)

    7 grain whole wheat bread.

Not good for you, but better than the original: lean pockets.

    Reduced sodium/ fat soups (can)

Reduced fat salad dressings, like newmans balsemic vinegertte

    Brown rice

I'm slowly adjusting my diet to lower my cholesterol. Now I do....

    Turkey bacon instead of pork.
Egg whites instead of entire egg
    fewer cheeseburgers
    fewer fried foods

I also need to start taking fish oil pills and a mutli-vitamin that contains Niacin.

    I consider a low-fat label to be a sort of Do-Not-Buy sign.

i usu do water but the coke zero is good considering i don't drink coke or pepsi.

ritz is one thing i'll get in either reduced fat or the less salty one. oh and saltine crackers too.

1% milk but that was a compromise btwn my husband (2%) and i (skim).

we get morningstar sausage patties b/c they are so much healthier than jimmy deans. meat eating husband and i approve of these too.

Daisy Light is better, IMO, than regular Daisy. I also use fat-free Coffee-Mate. There is no taste difference.

    I tried low-fat 1000 Island Dressing...that was absolutely horrid.

    I like:

    Sugarfree Pudding
    Sugarfree Jello
    Skim Milk(I actually hate whole & 2%)
    Double-Churned Ice Cream
    2% Cheese
    Ground Turkey
Sugarfree Strawberry Perserves(They taste way diff, but still good to me)
    Reduced Fat Club Crackers
    GV Low calorie Syrup
    Turkey Bacon
I like diet sodas now, but it was a gradual process(I liked Coke Zero, Diet Dr. Pepper, Fanta Zero, and Cherry Coke Zero early, then afterwards started liking the taste of regular diet coke, pepsi one, diet sunkist).

    Hate:

    Low anything Peanut Butter
Sugar-Free Ice Cream(Unless you use it to make a shake and add real chocolate syrup)
    Fat Free Cheese
    Sugarfree Chocolate Syrup

You're better off cutting sugar from your diet than fats. Some fats are actually good for you.
