If I am going to do occasional gaming. Really for Internet and media use. I dont edit or nothing. I would like to be able to watch tv with out a problem. ? Im not to great with computers so. Go easy.

Whats better AMD or Intel ?

Is it worth getting a slower 64 bit chip or getting a faster 32 bit chip ?

Do 64 bit chips run faster than their advertised clock speeds ? ( from what i hear ?) ?

    Fill me in guys.. thanks

whats your price range? I'd go for a 64bit AMD compatible mother board. most likely it will be PCI express, so don't even thining about using your last generation AGP video graphics card.

hehe....forgot to say what processor, which this whole thread was about.

I'm about to get an AMD 64 3500 IIRC.

traditionally AMD is better bang for your buck. Lately, AMD is looking like it's better bang period.

Get a 64-bit AMD. Might as well go 64 bit today if you're getting a new processor, it's not that much more expensive.

if you're getting a new motherboard, might as well get the SATA and PCI express connections too. if you're being really cheap, i still would NOT consider buying integrated video... a cheap video card can be had for $15.

Go with AMD. Best Bang for the buck. Good value would be Athlon64 3000+ venice core.

Yeah, I was gonna say....Intel's chips are the ones that are known to run hot in recent years.

Not much to add, but take everyone else's advice and go with an AMD 64. They outperform Intel chips at higher clock speeds across the board. I bought a 3200+ (Winchester core) about this time last year and it rocks.

adeelsiddiqui .... where did you find a dual core and mobo for that much ?

Thanks for all the help guys. I'll most likely go with the amd3500, would I be able to overclock this one to get it at 2.4ghz ?

If I were to get this cpu what motherboard and video card should i get ?

video card- I want it to have tv capabilities and hand intense games?

Motherboard- maybe expandable to the new m2 cpu when that comes out ?

    Thanks guys

    black friday
    fry's
i have an amd sempron on my other computer... i would say, blah...
but yet, much better than a celeron.

get a p4, in all honesty. you wont be using the 64bit part of an amd anyways. and moreover windows 64 is crap and linux is only decent with it...

Mobo-if you want SLI get a DFI nf4 SLI board, or get a DFI-nf4 ultra D Mobo.
GPU-well if you have the get 7800GTX, other wise, you can get the 7800GT for well uner $400.

Everything depends on how much cash you have, my comp is better than the dell xp5 and only costed $1400, you can build an intense gaming machine for around $2000

Get an AMD64 X2... forget Intel until next year.
Get a dual core if you want, but it isn't necessary
