Consdering how big Houston is I'm surprised at how many places a lot of us remember in coming in the Houston memories thread. I'm wondering what part of town did y'all grow up in? I grew up just outside of West U off of Buffalo Speedway. I think the neighborhood is now called Braeswood but I don't think it had a name while I was growing up.
The spring Branch! I was even a member of the GGG at our middle school, led by the fearless dictator/ principle bird. I later became a rebel, and just went solo.
Originally, NW Houston (Hollister @ 290) for the first 12 years Secondarily, NW Harris County (Cypress) for the next 6 Austin ever since.
East End baby, born and raised. Now that I'm away from Houston, I find myself opining for simple things like driving down Harrisburg and buying licuados, biking through Eastwood, or even just watching the ships at the Ship Channel. Oh, and the decaying industrialism. I can't forget that.
Where, specifically? My dad grew up in Braes Heights off of Dumbarton, so I visited my grandparents there my whole life. Hell, my folks just built a McMansion there to sell.
Bellaire. On Jaquet, near that little park on the 610 feeder between Fournace and Bissonnett. Lived there until the 5th grade when we moved to the NW side off of Jones Rd and Grant. Quite the culture shock being around all those rich snobby kids.
As for me? Primarily grew up in Baytown as a child in a subdivision called Whispering Pines from 77 to 84. Then Valdez, AK for a year and a half. Then Kingwood, in the Sand Creek subdivision from 86 and 87. Then Bellaire to finish up grade school on a little horseshoe street called Bellaire Court.
A bunch of high living folks. I grew up in Southeast Houston off of Belfort between South Park (now MLK) and Cullen.
Moved to Spring (Forrest North subdivision) from Philadelphia in 1980 Then to The Woodlands in 1985 until I left for Austin in 1999. Parents are still there.
