Don't remember where I saw that (maybe in other post) someone said, if Yao is available then other 29 GM will immediately offer a package and contact rocket's front office. I wonder what those packages would be... Yao is like a bond with low face value, high coupon payment with a long maturity time. Plus the interest rate is really low right now. Maybe Rocket could get alot in return...
SF must be an equity with a high PE ratio that yields just enough short term dividends to keep some conservative holders content.
gater? I agree that the financial aspect ( which, BTW, it is interesting that you have become our resident expert...not a shot, a reality; kudos, an I remember when you and I were just two voices in the wilderness, crying out for no Rice...)... ...but the rest of this is a reasonable question not yet fully explored. Now I think trading Yao would be a bad, bad move, and I think he's the future, but being infomred is never worse than being uninformed, and knowing Yao's market would be improving our information, if only to know why it is better to keep him. We have often discussed Steve's market value, Cat's etc. Just because many, like myself, think we shouldn't and won't trade Yao whereas we might trade Steve doesn't mean at least talking about what we could get is "stupid." I mean, we're fans. Isn't this what fans do? This isn't another in a long string of " Let's trade Stevie" threads which, while possibly accurate no longer contain any novelty; this is something I think is worth discussing. The premise is that every team in the league would love to have Yao. Ok, what do we think is the transaltion of that desire into market value? Have we discussed this at length before and I missed it ( possible), or is there another reason why a dialogue about Yao's actual market value is inherently worthless, if only to appreciate what we have?
Yao @ $4.4m + Taylor @ $8.5m + $6.99 TE = 1 max player and an MLE priced player...big whoooppp. You can't get true value because Yao makes so little.
Eric Piatkowski $2,458,000 Maurice Taylor $7,800,000 Kelvin Cato $7,344,000 Clarence Weatherspoon $5,445,000
maybe we could trade yao ming to the lakers for kobe bryant. trade francis for brand. trade mo taylor and future #1 pick and throw in the trade exception TE for Ray Allen pg Kobe Bryant sg Ray Allen sf Jim Jackson pf Elton Brand C Kelvin Cato bench Cutino Mobley Boki something like that. only in my dreams
shouldnt it be 28 teams, seeing how the charlotte franchise wouldnt have anything to offer at this point?
Like you guys, I don't want Yao traded but it's a really interesting question the thread asked. It's definitely worth some discussion. It's like MacBeth said, you want to appreciate what you have, like this Antique Road show, a woman takes out a nice heirloom box, and ask the antique expert about it, although she's happy that box worth a lot of money, she said she's going to keep it. I wonder what New York or Golden State would give up for Yao. I know for sure that these two would be dying to get their hands on Yao.
And why would you trade yao. What do u expect to get in return? THe players that actually make an impact on their team and help them win are not avaiblie (ex: garnet, duncan, etc). And if you trade for players that are avaliable, someone like brand or tmac what makes u think they can come to houston to win, when they cant win already. So this thread is dumb.
well if they pick up steve in the expansion draft, they can give steve for yao, and we know how the whole town of htown would love to do that...
