I would think 15. By the way, isn't Moochie #12? I'm gonna have to check, but I'm probably way off.

definitely not 76, it reminds me of Shawn Bradley...

How about 80? he's born in 1980.

I agree on the "76" number...reminds me of Bradly too....no!

If the Rockets were SMART they would ask Yao what number he would want, I think 15 is open, and then make that decision TODAY. Then TOMORROW have Yao jerseys onsale at local sports stores. I bet the Rockets could make a killing tomorrow with official Yao jerseys! Strike while the iron is hot! Start shipping the jerseys to China and start raking in the $$$! ;)

The Chinese are going to counterfit their merchandise. Watch, money will be made on broadcasts (goes to NBA) but not Ming jerseys.

I've been wanting to post this, but could never find a place.

I have a SURE FIRE reason why Yao Ming will succeed in the NBA . . .

He and I have the EXACT SAME birthday. September 12, 1980. That proves beyond a shadow of reasonable doubt that Yao Ming will be great! :)

I think he should wear #1. Then we would have 1,3, and 5.

When asked about the extensive piracy of Microsoft software in China, the Microsoft spokesman said "Since piracy is so extensive, I rather they pirate our softwares than our competitors', as this helps us gain exposure leverage anyway"

Thus even if everyone is wearing counterfit Rockets jersey in China, they are atleast still wearing a 'Rockets jersey' and not some other teams' jerseys ;)

My guess is 8, which is considered a lucky number chinese culture.

besides, turn 8 sideways, and it looks like the symbol for infinity . . . his potential is infinite.

'8' in Chinese culture is a lucky number for 'making money', 'prospering financially'

Yao Ming is not after that, since he won't be getting much himsefl (most if not all will end up with the CBA and the Sharks)

How about 99? Can you get that number? It means eternity in Chinese.

6,8 are the good numbers.

Don't give him 4.5.7.

He will prefer 66.

He might take something particular to Chinese history...

54 (May Fourth movement), 81 (8/1, founding of the PLA), 11 (10+1, National Day).

And, why not 15? It's available, and it's his old number.

Mengke Bateer of the Denver Nuggets wears 27 because in Chinese, the number 2 sounds like the character for 'son', and 7 sounds like the character for 'wife'.

3 Steve Francis
33 Eddie Griffin
14 Dan Langhi
5 Cuttino Mobley
44 Terence Morris
12 Moochie Norris

41 Glen Rice*

Unless a vet offers to switch numbers, Ming (as a rookie) will have to accept one of the open numbers.

Ming will not wear 12. I think Moochie wore 7 last year and didn't like it.

It won't have a 4 in it as that is a number that signifies death in Chinese culture
