This is what the fans want out of a TMac deal. http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=235826&sid=c00699d06b6f4a02cb2b4d937d8bd79b Would you do this? We're giving up a lot, but i would really look into it.
Most of the replies were negative, so how is this what Magic fans want? They will not be happy with the deal, that's for sure. But I think it would be good for them, better than the Phoenix one. On a side note, one of them mentioned we drop T-Mac and Francis from the deal, making it: Reece Gaines Pat Garritty Juwan Howard for MoT Mobley Adrian Griffin I like it. I'd absoluetly love it if they swapped Lue for Gaines in the trade. They'd have to throw someone into the deal to make it work though. We'd be much improved at the F spots, improve our 3-pt shooting. Imagine: Yao/Cato Howard/Cato/Spoon JJ/Garritty/Boki Francis/JJ/Pike Lue/Francis/Gaines That would be a nice team, Howard is a consistent scorer/rebounder, good experience, better defender than MoT. Lue would provide a solid 25-30 minutes at PG, while Francis would spend more time than usual at SG.
Reality has not sank in to them yet. Once they realize that when a player demands a trade, his value goes down.......they will be happy w/ Steve and Cato. If Suns want to trade away JJ, Marion, and their pick, more power to them. We will keep our team and still be better than a team w/ just Amare and TMac.
i think juwan howard could be a pretty good player next to yao and tmac. i think that would be the best role for him. and as far as i remember howard has a pretty reasonable contract now.
What's up with your crazy idea to give up Francis, Mobley AND Cato to get McGrady + Grant Hill? Shoot, they'd have to give us a LOT more than that to take that waste of money. Maybe Francis, Cato, Weatherspoon but then we're THIN in the front court.
To be honest, I'd give up anything except for Yao in exchange for T-Mac and anything they want. I could care less. We will deal with the rest later. Just get Yao and T-Mac on the same team. Give them Cato. Hill opts out after one year. Trade MoT for Yogi Stewart and Chris Mihm (both expiring contracts). What do you get? All our money tied into T-Mac and Yao, everyone else on small contracts after this upcoming season. We could sign players here and there to comlpement them. If Hill opts out, we trade for Yogi and Mihm, we don't sign anyone with the MLE, and renounce our Trade Exception, I believe we'll actually have capsapce after next season. Can you IMAGINE? T-Mac and Yao on the same team... AND CAPSPACE! Honestly, I think this team can make the playoffs in the West (just examples): Yao someone like Othella Harrington or Brian Skinner Boki T-Mac Someone like Damon Jones or Rafer Alston or Charlie Ward Put some CBA players around them, and add major pieces as they come along. All they need is ONE complimentary shooter, one guy to feed them, and a PF to do the dirty work.
It is not Orlando who has to be pleased, if you please. It is Tracy Mc Grady. Please him, then please please Magic. That will become accomplishable.
Why would we have to give up so much? Don't you guys remember when Pippen had us by the balls? Cato, Wiz, Rogers... How was that equal? All we have to do is offer a better deal than LA, SA, or Phoenix! Steve is the best player any team is going to give up in this deal. Houston and Orlando are similar. Houston has Yao! Houston is closer to Orlando, his home, than any of the aforementioned cities. We are giving up more than we have to!
Do you think the difference in distance between Houston and Orlando and San Antonio and Orlando is going to matter to him? I don't. But what might matter is the fact that SA is a better team right now than Houston is.
I want T-Mac as much as the next guy, but this lineup wouldn't cut it. I would do the Cat/MoT/Griffin for Howard/Gaines/Garrity. That would be a nice trade for both teams. SF/Cat/MoT or Cato/TE for T-Mac/Hill/filler is probably our best bet.
No not a big deal. I was actually referring to LA and Phoenix. But, Steve is the best player that will be offered. I don't think Kobe would an option!
i can care less what the magic fans want. i was shocked that Yao wasn't in there some where. Reece Gaines?? A broken down Pat Garrity??? And we lose not only Francis and Mo Taylor but also Cat? I'm sorry but that's asking for too much.
I'm with you there. Tmac does NOT have any sort of direct choice in where he goes, right? But if he really wants to go to SA, he could exert pressure by not agreeing to negotiate a contract with other teams, thus scaring them off. So he could effectively make other teams lose interest. Besides SA and LA, it seems like Houston is the best option for him. And since we agree that Kobe will almost definitely not agree to a S&T to Orlando, that pretty much leaves Houston and SA. If SA offers Parker, Rasho and Manu, I think that would compare pretty favorably to an offer of SF, Cat and Cato. And if Tmac really preferred SA to houston, well... but who knows, I'm just pessimistic at this point. it's much easier on the heart.
How is it so hard for some of you to understand that role players can be found and added later. Who gives a damn who your other 3 guys are right now, you're not assembling a roster to win a championship this season. You're putting together two 25 year olds with MVP potential, and ensuring they stay together for the next 10 years. You do any and everything in your power to get that done. You can fill in your roster over the years with the MLE and draft picks. You think we're going to look back in 5 years and say "man, we really miss Mo Taylor and Cuttino Mobley, I knew we'de never replace them." No. We'll have found some other role players by then to replace them because that's how basketball works. This isn't baseball. Stars win championships. Getting a guy this young and this good is a once in a lifetime opportunity - if you're Carrol Dawson, you get this done, the cost be damned.
good stuff. plus Juwan Howard is a fine third or fourth option. he may experience a rejuvenation playing for a good team for a change.
Excellent excellent post. I keep tryin to get this point across. They're both 25. Imagine what they'll be like in their 3rd season playing together, McGrady's 8th and Yao's 5th, when they're around 28? Wow.
