I read that earlier today. Gotta love hustle and good attitude, especially when it's combined with talent.

Hope he can last longer than our other good back. If Texans went and got a secondary this would be a great team.

 I kinda remember the play. Slaton got him right after he crossed the endzone right?

Anyways, I thought he was second in yards from scrimmage. He was first in the AFC! :)

The Tennessee stat is very impressive as well. Defenses will be more prepared for him. Let's hope he gets even better this season.

Cool story - Hope he has an even better year.

He and Pat White were dynamic to watch at WVU

Nice article. Our offense has a chance to be really special this year now that Slaton is well-known. Defenses will be wary of him, which will open up the pass even more. We could rather easily have 4 pro-bowlers on offense, if not 5 - Schaub, Dre, Slaton, Daniels, and maybe Winston.

Vonta is definitely an underrated FB. But yeah, we can definitely have four, maybe five Pro Bowlers. Just on offense. Our defense just needs to step up.

Vonta deserves a lot of credit. I hate that he gets overlooked. I'm looking forward to more of this from them:....

I might take him with the #7 pick in my FF draft. But I'll probably have LT there too.

this... this right here is what has me worried. i'm prone to being dubious of players who outperform their expectations anyway... it increases my unease to hear the coach actually point it out.

not that he can't duplicate, or even build on his rookie season - but a regression back to being the guy who "might be able to help us on third down" shouldn't come as a giant shock to anyone. i fear too many fans have already penciled him in for a season that might not be attainable...

I think it depends on why they thought that. You could be right. But in Slaton's defense, I think it's more because the Texans or any of the other 31 teams just didn't know what he had. He was part of essentially a gimmick offense at WVU. He never had to run through the tackles there like he does in the NFL. The competition in the Big East is decent, but nothing like if he had played in the SEC or Big 12. He was an unknown, smallish, quick rb. He proved that with a great work ethic, he can be an everydown back. Even one that can run through the tackles. Now, he's added some strength in his legs, meaning he should be even stronger this year when he's expected to average over 20 carries a game.

which makes me even *more* dubious. couldn't A reason (not THE reason) for his big year be that every team scouted him last year, didn't think *that* highly of him (too small, gimmicky offense, nothing but a 3rd down, change of pace back) and therefore were caught somewhat napping on him?... and can we expect them to sleep on him again this year, too?

i'm not by *any* means rendering anything other than cautious optimism here. i *hope* he's as good - hell, i hope he's better. but i wouldn't be shocked if he regressed.

you have an uncanny ability to doubt texans players who perform and hang on to hopes of those who do not.

i know, i know - remember when you talking up mario williams every week back in 2006 and early 2007 and i was all, "he sucks! i (heart) VINCE YOUNG fo-vah, mofo!!!!!!!1!!"

    oh, wait.......

i don't think i need to apologize for being cautiously optimistic about a 3rd round rookie - initially an afterthought, per by his own coach - continuing to play at the level of a #1 pick. it's why, *IF* he does regress and the teams suffers from that regression, i won't be running around here in 6 weeks shouting at the top of my lungs, "ZOMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS TEAM SUCKS!!!!! FIRE EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!"

i'm from missouri - well, not really but i should've been because i'm a "show me" guy. he's done it once; he needs to do it twice before i put away the pencil and starting using a pen - know what i mean?

I don't see why anyone would doubt his performance was legit, he was a big time performer in the big east, he was a beast his sophomore year. I think he was injured some time the year before he was drafted
