I am from Dallas, and enjoy many bands that have come out of the area, such as:

    Sugarbomb
    Flickerstick
Course of Empire (no longer together)

...as well as some others. I was wondering, wherever you are from, what locals do you go see, listen to???

My roommate in college knew and played with the old 97's when they were but young kids. Funny you should mention that.

    that's cool, hoop-T.

I wish they'd put out more stuff. actually, I just wish they'd write more songs like Timebomb. and I wish there were more bands who played similar stuff to them.

Here in Dallas I like Lillian Axe. I don't know if they can be considered local or not, but they really don't play much more than Dallas and Houston anymore.

    I just got the Double M album . . .

Other local artists are some of the other Rap artists here -- H.A.W.K., Big Moe, Lil Flip, etc.

    Tallahassee, FL - Creed.

Or not. What sellouts. Local music is alright here, though I don't know much of it. Flickerstick was through here a few weeks ago and Sister Hazel will be in a couple of weeks, too. But toher than that - typical college town with lots of bands that I could never hope to listen to the entire array of.

I discovered the Old 97's almost two years ago, and have seen them play a few times in San Francisco (plus Rhett Miller solo in L.A.). They're great.

The Delphines, another band that I previously promoted in this thread, are coming back to play Texas, and I highly recommend checking them out:

    MARCH 14TH
    SXSW
    Austin, TX
(Place/time not listed on the band's website yet.)

    MARCH 15TH
    Casbeers
    1719 Blanco Rd.
    San Antonio, TX 78212
    (210) 732-3511
    10:00pm / 60 minute set / $8 cover

    MARCH 16TH
    J&J's Blues Bar
    937 Woodward St.
    Fort Worth, TX 76107
    (817) 560-5357
    11:30pm / 75 minute set / $10 cover

Also, for Houston dwellers, if you like classic rock from the 60's on through the 80's, I highly suggest looking up the band Vintage. They rock, and they can play just about anything form that era (save AC/DC and Zeppelin, but who can really sing their stuff?).

    yo, deep.

have you ever listened to any Centromatic?

if so, what are your impressions on them? to whom would you compare them?

what I've heard about them has piqued my interest, but I don't really know much about them.
