But since you got to page 84 and are still asking the question, here's how I recently came to get a handle on the word "woke," in modern political usage. In the year 2000, for every black or brown person in the US, you could find about three whole white people. In the year 2020, for every black or brown person in the US, you could find not quite two whole white people. As far as I can tell, people bothered by that trend use the term "woke" to refer to those who don't give a crap about that trend. Example usage: "I mean, did you see the cast of that movie? It's like, what damned country am I living in? Give me Sly Stallone, or at least Patrick Suedey or whatever. Bunch of woke Hollywood nonsense right there, tell you what."
