When I say underrated, I mean a movie that wasn't thought of too highly when it was out but over a time has been recognized as a good movie.

Some of you might know that I'm a Hitchcock fan, so it may not be a surprise that my choice for most underrated movie is a Hitchcock one - "Marnie" from 1964.

I can see in a way why this movie didn't do too well when it was released. After all, it followed what had been a string of brilliant movies by Hitchcock in "Vertigo", "North by Northwest", "Psycho", and "The Birds". Plus the themes of "Marnie" were completely different from anything that Hitchcock had done at that time and they were somewhat taboo for that era.

However, this is a movie that rewards the viewer who has seen it several times. Sean Connery is excellent in the role of Mark Rutland and is very funny in the movie (sorta like Cary Grant in "North by Northwest" with the way he says things). The supporting characters are all good, and the musical score by Bernard Herrman might have been his best Hitchcock score since "Vertigo". And of course, there is the outstanding performance given by Tippi Hedren in the lead. It's a shame that she and Hitchcock had a major falling out after this movie (Hitchcock also had a major falling out with Bernard Herrman after this movie).

If you are a fan of movies by Hitchcock, then you must see this movie if you haven't already. Even if Hitchcock is not your cup of tea, I implore you to consider giving this movie a try because it is a very unique one.

Meeting People is Easy. It's mind numbingly boring, but after the 30th viewing, its brilliant.

OK, I'm putting on my thickest pair of flame resistant undies for this one. One of the most underrated movies in my mind is "Smokey and the Bandit"

Gleason is brilliant and Reynolds is a perfect cocky b*stard. The movie takes a lot of **** for it's southern brand of cheese, but I think it works.

For some reason, the movie that popped into my mind first was Jackie Brown.

However, I think I'll have to go with The Killing.

How bout "The Harder They Come" with Jimmy Cliff. I don't know how much it's underrated as compared to how few people know about it.

I've gotta go with PCU. Jeremy Piven = underrated.

"Well, here's all you need to know. Classes, nothing before 11. Beer, its your best friend, you drink a lot of it. Women, you're a freshman, so its pretty much out of the question. Will you have a car?"
    "Uh, no."
"Someone on your hall will...find them and make friends with them on the first day."

Indeed. One of my top 5 of all time. Doug Liman has released 3 films..."Swingers", "Go", "Bourne Identity"....i'd say he's on a roll.

And when I read Manny's definition for an underrated movie..."Flashdance" came immediately to mind. Jennifer Beals is such a hottie in that movie. I remember watching it at 6 months old...lol...jk.

The Killing by Stanley Kubrick? My friends weren't too fond of that movie, I thought it was fine. The two most underrated Kubrick movies are Paths of Glory and Barry Lyndon.
