Very poor introduction to a brilliant topic. I've always noticed a lot of people "changing" around their parents, but it only taps the surface of how we all, to whatever degree, behave around certain people. We all know, for example, that we are more formal at work and amongst family than with friends, but the variants I've seen, even amongst different subsets of friends is really fascinating. I've even caught myself behaving differently in certain subsets of friends.
I am the Pluto of my family, i.e, the furtherest away from orbit. This is due to both geography and lifestyle choices.
I used to think my parents hated me, because they promised to pay for my college, but then didn't. But then....they bought my 15 year old little sister a new car, paid for in cash. Now I know how they really feel. lol
Ofcourse my family adores me. But that is mainly because i decided to stay in the netherlands and not move to Peru(which my brother did). So I'm the only child of my parents who stayed in the netherlands.
My mom is the youngest of 5, and thus I am the youngest of all my cousins (only child). I have always been the baby of the bunch.
"Of course we love rimrocker, but he married THAT woman, who wasn't even from Texas! And he didn't go into the insurance business like we wanted. Instead, he does a bunch of stuff we don't understand. Then he moves all over the place and ends up in Oregon? That's not even in the south is it? Well, that's what one of those Liberal Arts degrees will do. Why couldn't he have gone to business school? Oh, but his daughters are precious! We just wish he brought them back more often, like every spring break, summer vacation, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and anytime we have a family get-together. He could even leave his wife in Oregon if that was the problem, which we're all sure it is."
