I buy fresh roasted beans from downtown and have an expensive cofee grinder but I went home for the holidays and my mom's HEB brand was at least 90-95% as good. what brand do you buy?
I live in Seattle, which is home to many, many coffee brands. There's a roaster a block from my house, and I wake to the smell of roasting beans. My dirty secret: I buy all of my beans from the House of Coffee Beans in Rice Village. Their Premier Indian Espresso is the best espresso beans I've ever had. Since you're in Houston, you should go downtown and check them out. They have a pretty big selection of blends, and they do all of their own roasting.
I am not a fan of espresso, I much brew. any suggestions from them for brew, or should I still get the Premier Indian?
It's good brewed or as expresso. It is very strong yet very smooth at the same time. Low acid and therefore not bitter.
I have been getting my beans from Lola Savannah and their prices seem to be WAY better than this place. Get what you pay for or is this a result of this company being in Rice village?
I've never tried Lola Savannah. I just know that House of Coffee Beans has really superb beans. There's a reason I pay to ship it to Seattle when I'm surrounded by regional roasters. I find you usually get what you pay for, and I think it's worth the money. Go in and try some. They brew quite a few samples, and I liked all the beans I tried. The Indian Premier is just so damn good. It's not bitter like most espresso, just smooth and rich. It almost has a chocolate type richness to it. I make a double shot espresso every morning and usually have a second a few hours later. Between my wife and I drinking a pair of Americanos a day, half and half, and sugar, we probably spend about $40 a month on coffee.
I have, but it's been over 6 years ago. I remember liking the other beans we tried, but I can't even recall the characteristics or what type of bean they were. We moved to Seattle in January 2004, and after trying a number of local roasters, we realized that we weren't going to find better than the Indian Premier. My wife and I almost exclusively drink that. Now if I want something different, I just hit up the roaster down the street.
I buy by the pound, but they might sell in other increments at the store. They also have stamp cards so every 13th pound is free.
