What the heck is wrong with you people? You all are dissing Steve. What's with all of you people trying to vote off Steve in that All-Star team when he is much better than Elton Brand who is still on that list. Most of the time you guys insult Steve's game and his off the court comments, which aren't bad. His comments haven't hurt the team at all. He you were about to make a long term contract with the Rockets, wouldn't you want to talk to the organazation about the direction of the team? This is a huge commitment he will make, and it's good that he is thinking it out. It's not like we have the best management. You guys always say that he isn't that good, because he shoots too much for a point guard. Every other message board, media souirce, or sports tv show, consisting of people that aren't fans praises Steve, but Rockets fans always insult him. It seems like Steve haters almost out-number people that like him. Steve averaged 21.6 points, 7 boards, and 6.4 dimes per game last season. He played hurt every game. He had shoulder problems, and problems with his ear, but he still gave it his all and had a great season. Give the guy some credit.

I think people just want to save money.

    *sigh*

what's with the generalizing dude? People can't be critical of Stevie without being labeled as haters? He's still has quite a bit to work on despite his gaudy numbers.

    It's called being objective.

    Brand: Career averages
    78 gps
    0.9spg
    1.8bpg
    2.6to/pg
    10.6rpg
    2.5apg
    19.4ppg

    Francis: Career averages
    71gps
    1.5spg
    0.4bpg
    3.7to/pg
    6.4rpg
    6.5apg
    19.7ppg

Francis' injuries have lead to MANY missed games, while Brand pretty much dependable for a season's worth of games, hence his greater value in the NBA survivor game.

Both have outstanding numbers for a soon to be fourth year pro, but Brand also plays solid defense. francis?

by a slim margin, i vote brand over francis, especially when you consider the incredible value of a skilled big man in a league where Shaq is your number one opponent.

I'll be voting Carter off after francis, and than brand.

i don't let the fact that I'm a Rockets fan judge my ability to discuss the value of NBA players fairly. It may be tough for some, but I can easily separate the two and be nonbiased.

these are just my opinions. for those who think francis should win this contest (or beat Brand), i would love to hear some explanations.

If Steve doesn't want people to diss him he should......

1.Respect the decisions of management....who brought Steve in even though everyone dissed him for acting like a primadonna and refusing to play for the team that drafted him.

2.Refrain from any comments that could be misconstrued by his teammates, mgmt. or his fans.He may not mean anything negative by his statements but you have no idea if they will hurt the team or not.Cat wanted Ming when we got the pick, he talked to Steve and changed his mind, this could possibly cause a division between the team, so was it worth it?

3.Take care of himself and understand that his health is everything to the future of this team.If you have a problem, get help.Don't wait for the summer to find a remedy for your ailments, if they are still preventing you from being a 100% on the court, especially in a losing season.

4.Be a point guard.Have faith in your teammates.Stop trying to be and act the part of the man and BE THE MAN.Get your teammates involved more but know when to exploit the other teams defense and make them pay.I want Steve to be our best scorer, but I don't want to see him forcing it.

5.Have faith in your management. They have done nothing but kiss your butt since you have been here.THe rockets mgmnt. have been loyal to you, so let's see some loyalty and understanding on your part.

6.THIS IS THE NUMBER ONE REASON PEOPLE DISS ON STEVE FRANCIS---BECAUSE HE MAKES IMMATURE DECISIONS ON AND OFF THE COURT--DECISIONS THAT MAKE HIM SEEM SELFISH AND MAKE HIM OUT TO BE JUST ANOTHER PRIMMADONNA.

SURE STEVE IS STILL YOUNG AND IMMATURE SO DOESN"T THAT GIVE MANY OF US HERE WHO ARGUE THAT STEVE MAY NOT HAVE WHAT IT TAKES MENTALLY TO BE A FRANCHISE PLAYER SOME VALIDITY TO OUR ARGUMENT....IMMATURE, YET WE ARE FIXING TO GIVE HIM THE FARM?

If STeve doesn't believe this organization is going to do what it takes to win...then I guess everyone here has more faith in our mgmnt. than Francis does and that is not a good thing.

If you don't want to hear people dissing on Steve then tell him to stop giving us the ammo.Everyone here wants Steve to be a rocket but not at the expense of the rest of the team because obviously he has yet to get the job done.

Steve is our Franchise player. I wonder if the people here that are critical of Steve were like this to Dream when he was our Franchise player. I'm not saying that Steve is better than Dream was, but Steve is trying his best and is one of the best players in the league. How can you guys say that Davis is better than Franchise. Davis had one good playoff series. He played against Darrell Armstrong. Armstrong isn't a great player. Davis got outplayed big time by Kidd. Could you imagine how good the Rockets would be in the East? Steve led us to a 45 win season when he was last healthy. I'm sure Davis's Hornets wouldn't be nearly as good as the Rockets if they played in the West that year.

Honestly, I am betting they are just wanting to troll, or they just think 3 more years of no playoffs would be nice

One thing that I don't get is that some of you will defend Iverson's off the court problems, and get mad at Steve for making one little comment that won't affect the Rockets.

The ReasonSF3:- Steve Francis (The Franchise) is one of my favourite players upto the Lottery when he commented out of place! All the friction between him and his LOYAL FANS,His Loyal Team and his loyal Management have been caused by him and his underlings! To name 2- Troy Barros and Cat Mobley. It is a great honor to be selected good enough to be in the NBA and an even GREATER HONOR TO BE ON A ROCKETS TEAM- WIN OR LOOSE!!!
If he is our leader I suggest he shut up,get well, get fit and lead our Rox back into the playoffs, somewhere in there sign your contract. No power moves just Team Basketball, Steve you have a lot of disalusioned loyal Rox Fans who need you to get out there and just show everyone what a great Point Guard you are!......
The Leader of The Rockets 2002/2003!!

I don't see the big deal about being voted off in the survivor ordeal. Its just an thread in which people voice their opinion. Speaking of Davis, I don't know who brought it up, but i want ot see Steve take the Rockets to the playoffs despite playing half the season without the leading scorer and about 20 games without the 3rd leading scorer. On top of that, you get into the playoffs and lose the returning leading scorer for the playoffs and still make it into the 2nd rd. Did i fail to mention he played the entire latter part of the season with plantar facitis? Give the man his due with those back to back triple doubles in the playoffs.

There's no glory in being a fanboy... why not argue honestly about Francis' strengths and weaknesses?

    Objectively, I believe Francis is:

    1. the 4th or 5th best PG in the NBA
    2. The best player in terms of production on the Rockets.
    3. An electrifying player who's often tremendously fun to watch.
    4. The linch-pin of the Rockets playoff hopes in 2003.

    Weaknesses:

    1. Often displays little on-court judgement with regards to ball distribution.
    2. Relies too much on his physical abilities (tied in with #1)
    3. Can be immature and unreasonable in his demands and desires.
    4. Shows a desire for immediate gratification over long-term results by not following expert medical advice.

Francis has both good qualities and bad. To deny either is foolish.

Again, Haven hits the nail on the head.

THough, I would say that the negatives outweigh the positives. This usually happens to "star" players who haven't made the playoffs in 3 tries.

Davis still had a solid supporting cast, and more importantly, was in the eastern conference. Do you really think that the Hornets would have been any better than the Rockets if they had been in the west?

significantly better? maybe not. but actually better? yes. you said davis had a solid supporting cast. that don't matter whether you're in the east or the west--when you have good role players around you you will win.

new orleans last year vs. west-- 13-15

    houston vs. west -- 18-34

is this significant ? not in the rockets case. but is this significant for the hornets? yes b/c it proves that they can do okay in the west where as the rockets, who are still young and still needs to mature, needs more improvement.

I completely agree with you TheReasonSF3. The problem is that most people in this forum are Yao fans, not Rockets fans.

francis is a wonderful player. we are nowhere without him.

if he wants to leave we cant stop him but we can trade him. i have no idea what hes thinking...he changes opinions fast. i still think well resign him, and this was just to show how important he is and give us a lil scare.

hell resign. im behind him and his game, but not behind his comments. does that make sense?
