DD
lol @ the whiney a$$ longhorns b****ing about Davis. He was there for both of your MNC's in the past 5 years, hasn't he? he's consistently fielded one of the top offenses every damn year. Your savior Vince Young didn't just make it up as he went when he won the MNC, Greg Davis was calling the damn plays. Now, step back for a second and look at that over hyped skinny boy y'all have as your QB. That right there is what happens when you proclaim him as the new Peyton Manning before he even took a snap, and then after throwing 4 picks in the championship game you said scratch that, he's the Elway of the new millennium. /rant disclaimer: I'm bitter, angry & jealous because aggie football has been in the toilet for the past 12 years
Exactly. Why is Davis always the first one to get blamed when UT doesn't meet expectations? Who blames an assistant coach for a team's ills?
Who said Peyton Manning and John Elway? That's the media and the fact that he was highly touted coming out of high school. Your an aggie so you wouldn't know anything about football, stick to men's soccer discussion rookie.
Fans who watch the games. Greg Davis is capable of calling a good game, sure. He's done it a couple of times. But those who follow Longhorn football know that most of the successful plays that happened via Colt or Vince were actually broken plays. I can't even count the number of times Vince scampered for 20 yards when he discovered all the receivers were covered, or the times Colt tossed to Shipley on the run after the D blew through the pathetic O-Line. Greg Davis has demonstrated himself to be stubborn and doesn't seem to learn from his mistakes. The first two plays against OU were exactly what UT fans have been complaining about for years. Down by 7 already, we need to drive down the field to avoid risking playing from behind, which this team has shown it can't do. We throw a screen behind the line of scrimmage to our slowest receiver (Kirkendoll) being blocked by our smallest, worst blocking receiver (Goodwin) for a loss of two. Okay, this happens. No big deal. Except, HE DID THE EXACT SAME THING ON THE NEXT PLAY. Again, loss of two. Now we are 3rd and 14, and you know the rest. He loves plays that involve the receivers being stationary when they catch the ball, or drawing up routes for 4 yards on a 3rd and 7. Simple things that even the most average college football fan can tell probably won't work. And did I mention he was stubborn? In a year where we are DESPERATE for playmakers, it took 4 games to get DJ Monroe in there. Also, did you know we have this guy rotting away on our bench? How hard would it be to get him the ball a couple of times a game, just to see what he can do? I have been pretty indifferent about Greg Davis until this season, but he is really losing me. Gilbert was incredible at the long passes out of the spread in high school, so what do we do with him? Put him under center and have him throw bubble screens to the side. It's just not smart football. Sorry for the novel, but this situation is much more complicated than, "Well y'all used to have a good offense so obviously Davis is fine"... because he is proving he's not.
the good ol' keyboard coach. I love it. Give Mack a ring man, maybe he'll hire you instead of that idiot Greg Davis (whose top offenses are 100% a result of Jesus VY and Colt). I mean, are you serious? "broken plays"? you gotta be trollin' man.
probably the most absurd, outrageous sports-related statement I have ever heard. I mean, wow. I'm speechless.
No. I said GD can call a good game, which he has. But it is becoming apparent that without a QB that can improvise like Vince or Colt, we have a very pedestrian offense. And yes, I will be the stereotypical arrogant UT grad here. We pretty much can get whoever we want to play for us. There is no excuse to have anything but an electric offense. I watch other teams with less talent run actual plays for success, while we see 2 yard runs and bubble screens. I don't understand the criticism to what I am saying. UT critics always say that we underutilize the talent we get, and here I am saying that is exactly the case. Sometimes I think people will argue with Texas fans about anything. Here I am saying you are right, and you are telling me I am wrong...?
Fans, head coaches, administrators. Assistant coaches get fired all the time to improve teams and programs, both in the NFL and college football. And it often makes a huge difference.
It's the standard surface-level defense of Greg Davis. It's sort of similar to using batting average to decide if someone's a good hitter. It sounds logical, but doesn't actually have much merit. It's as though people are opposed to actually thinking deeper than "he's won before, so he must be GREAT!!"
Mack Brown owes a lot to VY. That rose bowl was one of the greatest performances ever in the history to college football. They beat the "greatest college team ever". I hope nobody forgets when brown was getting destroyed by stoops and everyone said he couldn't win the big one. If he doesn't get to BCS bowl does he still have his job?
