With Yao out, the weakness in Scola's defense has been amplified so greatly that it is hard to believe that after all the years of coaching he still makes 1on1 or team defensive mistakes that most of us had weaned out at around the 5th grade level. Fouling when you have already been beat. Fouling weakly in the paint. Half-ass taking a charge and ending up with a block. Helping on a man from behind or multiple other bad angles. No true boxing out... The list goes on and on. When he doesn't contribute on offense, Scola becomes a disaster for us on defense and in the first quarter yesterday he was eaten alive on both ends of the ball. Unbelievable that it took the Lakers so long to start attacking him on every play. When Chuck got into early foul trouble the game was over right there. Chuck has got to keep his hands down because we have no other way to defend the Lakers around the basket at all. Could Artest not be put on Bynum or Gasol when Hayes is out of the game? If that doesnt happen we will continue to get destroyed in the paint.
You have to get to the rim to dunk it, right? There is no way that either of them are quicker or jump higher than Artest. Artest is at least as strong as Bynum and probably ten times stronger than Gasol.
he is a PF playing the center role. u cant expect him to perform to his max. i dont think he deserved this thread at all, he wasnt the reason for the loss.
Uh, Gasol and Bynum are both taller than he is. There was no weakside help defense last night, and on offense they collapsed on him everytime he tried to make a play. We are just WAY undersized, especially with Chuck out (and Luis didn't shoot well)
dunno what's the cause of his inconsistency..though he puts up double doubles w/ his hustle..i'm still gonna trade him in a package for Bosh anytym if the Raptors don't wanna give him money
what's wrong with is scola is this he is an undersized 4 playing against 7 footers with no weakside help
There is so much wrong with that post. Hayes is a much better post defender than Artest against centers. Artest would be riding the bench in foul trouble more than Hayes would. Artest would have to use so much leverage to keep them out of the paint they could make one move and he would be so off balance there would be nothing he could do.
Thread is not indicative of one game. It is indicative of the entire series. I'm not giving Scola hell...He is just having a terrible series and in the playoffs you dont have 60 more games to get out of a funk. Trying to discuss what adjustments should be made to try and win a game that has the potential to end our season. I believe that putting Artest down there with him would help more than putting Landry or Cook or whatever Adelman is doing.
Yes of course Hayes is a much better post defender, but Gasol only posts up 30-35% of the time. He tries to face up most of the time like the weak ass Euro he is. Nobody compared Hayes to Artest. Artest is a better option when Hayes goes out than Landry or Cook...thats the argument we're making here.
You want to get on an IM client and discuss the intricacies in basketball terms of this discussion I'm all for it.
Scola was paid a nice sum by Jack nicholas....Scola had to get paid.. .Artest and Scola was running that Pic and unroll at the top of the key....Turnover action all day Brain cook is D-league 6th man at best...When I seen him just jack up that 3pter and almost didnt hit anything at all, I knew it was gonna be a long night.. I'll trade brian cook for a tv guide and a 2 bottle caps..... I'll trade brain cook for a medium Shrimp Lo-mein and cup of warm water I'll trade brain cook for a cd of Vanilla Ice's greatest hits I'll trade brain cook for a copy of the greensheet and a ryan bowen rookie card
In Scolas defense he has no help defensively he is the biggest rocket, and he is slightly undersized.
Ok then, if he tries to face up most of the time what is Artest gonna do better than Landry or Cook? They are both taller and can bother Gasol's shot more than Artest would be able to.
What's wrong is that he's being forced to play a role he's not cut out for.. Scola is a tier 1 role player.. not someone you base your post defense and post offense on.
notice that he is one of national players ,who has no other obvious weakness than defense . I am just curious why those euro-styled players like playing tricks on court ,afraid of dash ??I just think Luis put much more energy on how to cheat refs but to improve the real D skills ,I think he 'd better have a talk with DM ,he can help our "movie king"!
