I kept hearing over and over again on TV and Cardsclubhouse.com that the extra [long] inning game will be bad for us even if we win it. They kept saying that it is wearing our bully out. That our pitching staff will be gutted. And I am sitting in my bedroom and I am saying - these folks know we have possibly two days off, right? These folks understand that if we win that game we will still perfectly set in games one, two and three with Andy, Roy and Roger (all on full rest at the minimum), right? These folks know that we still stretched the Cards to the end with a game 5 and short rested Rocket and God aweful Munro, right? These folks know that Lidge, Wheeler, Qualls and Springer will be fine even with one day off right? These folks know that Andy can pitch a 7-inning shut-out in game on before handing it to the Cards worst nightmare in Lidge, right? They do know that the difference between the final out of the Cards vs Pads series and Burke walk-off HR is barely 18 hours, right? They do know that the Cards had to travel red-eye back from San Diego, right? That Izy threw 22 pitches only 16 hours before Lidge's 45, right? That the Stros made it home in time to catch the 10PM news right? That ST. Louis is only a few hours flight right? That Mulder's elbow is sore and Carp is now hittable (we will score 4 runs against him minimum, says my hunch), right? In essence I do not see the fuss. The guys on fox and ESPN kept saying this and it kept irritating me. Now if we had gone to 5 and won, yeah it would have cost us both Andy and Roger, and Roy would have gone on shot day's rest but that is not the case. But as it stands now, we couldn't have been in a better shape. We are as sharp and confident as we can be (playing arguably our best offensively since July). We are healthy and well set starting pitching wise. Wheeler's confidence has risen. The Cards will miss our second nemesis behind Kiko Calero in Reyes in the bully. Everyone is worn out now. Everyone is playing with a bruise here or there. Stros in 4. Bring on the team from the southside.
I didn't understand that either. It didn't prevent the Mets from coming back and winning in '86. And didn't Boston have one of the ALCS games go 12 last year? But that's all right, let the Co-ards buy into that talk.
