What is up with the Rockets? They waive Gray, sign Miller, then sign Gray. Why?!

Any point in doing that? Other than guaranting the contract i guess I see no other point. Why are the Rockets so scared to use IR? You can have 15 spots, not just 12. Barring a trade, I see no point in keeping IR open. Might as well sign some backups, in case like Dream goes down like now.

My only guess is they are going to let him play out his 10-day and then waive him again. They had to let him go otherwise pay him for the year if I am correct.

The Rockets still need some big bodies down low with the problems with Cato's hand, Los' health and Hakeem being out. I am figuring once Hakeem is back in the fold, Devin may once again be a goner.

    You are right RocketPimp.

There are only a few seperate contracts outside held the CBA. But, all of them have strict guidlines. For example, the ten day contract has to be finished in ten days (Duh, I know). Anyway, after that time the alternative is to

1.release him to find other employment or return to his old team(more than likely).
2.sign him to a contract for the rest of the year.

Point of order: If he is released, and not resigned by another NBA team, does not return to his old Continental BA team or sign on at a recognized organization (European Federation), then he can be resigned back to a ten day contract with the original team (Not sure of the time limit window, but there is one. 48 hours,I think).

Answer is: because we moved TMass to IR and had a free spot. That's a bad sign...he must now sit for 5 games, unless we release an active spot for him.

Clearing waivers is 48 hours (august through season) 10 day otherwise. We can sign him to 2, 10-day contracts. After using up the 2 contracts, we must sign him for rest of season--no exceptions! He doesn't need to clear waivers between 10-day contracts. They can be consecutive or not. He had to clear wiavers here, because he wasn't on a 10-day contract. We had to release, clear waivers, and sign.

also, RF34, we are using the IR! Hakeem, Barkley, and TMass are all on it right now. We have 15 players as of this Gray re-signing.

Miller will probably be released when Hakeem returns. Hamilton might get back spasms when TMass returns and Gray will get a 2nd 10-day. You wouldn't want a 10-day contract used up on IR. You'd sign the guy for the rest of the season, if he is useful but has "back spasms".

    I just found out:

A 10-day contract player CANNOT be on IR. They are meant to replace spots vacated by injured players.

Thus, return of Hakeem and TMass will definitely mean sign Miller/Gray for rest of season and give them back spasms or release them. Hamilton could be a back spasm candidate as well.

I suspect we have more releases and signings in our future. Get ready....

Personally I hope the Rockets hold onto Miller for the rest of the season. I liked him last year when he was running the court with out then young guns(Dickerson & Mobley) and even Pip. Pig is an uptempo kind of player and I just have a feeling he'll benefit from the change in our offense.

Just curious, why doesn't management release or renounce the rights to Chuck(no disrespect to CB)? Wouldn't another roster player benefit them? I'm not sure if they can do this though.

Rockets can retire Charles for sure. (He still gets his pay, just so no one yells at me about that.)

They are also trying to get the medical exception for him, for possible replacement player cap credit. I'm not sure how long this process takes, but i know this:

So, Barkley will not retire until we get word back about our medical exception application.

Heypartner, I can see Rockets trainer Keith Jones now, hooking Hamilton up to a big machine to "give him back spasms." Ouch.

...they don't need a machine. They could lay him down at the FT line and let Turbo springboard off his butt a couple of times.

...or maybe have Clutch "accidentally" run the pre-game motorcycle into him.
