Home loss to Lyon.... what in the world is going on with this team? Amazingly talented side consistently underachieving. I will be very disappointed if they don't make it to at least the final eight in the champs league. Elber really had a satisfying night.... at least Makaay scored.
I'd tell you, but I don't follow Bundisliga. Or soccer... or football... or socball. Go Columbus Crew! I don't watch MLS either.
Over-rated. Said it before the start of the season, and I'll say it again. I also said that Chelsea would challenge this year. I'm not often right, so excuse me for mentioning it when I am!
Bayern will still win the Champions League this year. It is better not to peak too early in the season. Chelsea will run into trouble. They suck.
Any bias creeping in there, SJC? Don't get me wrong, I really dislike Chelsea. It pains me to say it, but they are strong contenders.
Creeping in? Are you kidding? I am one of the most fanatic Bayern fans so anything I say is ABSOLUTELY biased . Chelsea might be contenders in the UK. In the Champions League, they will be destroyed by Bayern (if we make it to the next round ), Real, Juve, Milan, etc.
Bayern isn't even tops in the Bundesliga. It's 5th! They are obviously underachieving right now. I think it was a mistake letting Elber go. Makaay may turn out to be good after all, but what were they thinking letting their leading goal scorer leave like that? I think Chelsea will make it to the semifinals. Anybody thinks Arsenal can make it out of the group stages? Can they avenge themselves in Milan?
Speaking of the Champions League, did you see the Monaco-Deportivo game?! 8-3!!! For those that aren't familiar with footb...eur...soccer this is a huge score!!(imagine the Rockets winning 180-60!) ALA
It was I who started a thread when Chelsea picked up Mutu that they would win the Champions League. I still stand by that. I do not think they will win the premiership. My reasoning is - The diverse playing style of Chelsea, and adaptable squad line up, allow them to match up with ANY European team and exploit their weaknesses. Arsenal and Man U always seem to fade out in the Champs League but just keep on winning in the premiership. Chelsea also is taking every team they play by surprise and Lampard is playing well enough to be a FIFA footballer of the year candidate. This is a stacked team that is starting to create an Identity.
I don't know if it would exactly correlate to a 180 point night for a team because teams score eight goals on a routine basis in football. It just usually isn't in the champions league, but more usually when Celtic plays Dunfermline.... Deschamps delight at Depor demolition Etienne Ballerini MONACO, Nov 5 (Reuters) - Didier Deschamps hailed Monaco's 8-3 victory in the Champions League on Wednesday as an extraordinary moment while Deportivo Coruna coach Javier Irureta blamed shocking defensive errors for a 'very negative' defeat. But both coaches were at a loss to explain why so many goals were scored in a match that set a record for the competition. 'It's difficult to grasp,' said Deschamps. 'It's an extraordinary moment to beat a side like Deportivo 8-3 in the Champions League. It's the sort of thing that is unthinkable. 'It was a little bit of a strange match, 11 goals - it's rare that happens in the Champions League,' he added with a smile. 'There were lots of chances and there are some evenings where everything you try succeeds. 'I must say the players all started the match raring to go and I congratulate them hugely. 'They played an exceptional game and carried out our attacking plans exactly. When the Spaniards came back to 4-2, the team knew how to react. 'To beat the favourites in the group confirms that our team have great potential and it is something very positive for the future. I hope we will have some great tomorrows.' GROUP LEADERS Monaco, beaten 1-0 in Spain by Deportivo, lead Group C with nine points followed by Deportivo on seven and PSV Eindhoven six. PSV beat AEK Athens 2-0 on Wednesday. There had previously been only one 8-3 result in the elite European competition when Lokomotiv Sofia beat Malmo in the 1964-65 European Cup first round. But this match set a record for the number of goals scored in a Champions League game. 'To give away eight goals - I don't know how to explain it,' said Irureta. 'It was a strange game. We had lots of chances but we made lots of terrible defensive errors and Monaco knew how to profit from them by playing very good, rapid football which gave us huge problems. 'I think we were too negligent giving away five goals in first half. In the second half, we also could not find ways of countering the speed and efficiency of Monaco. 'I felt very ill at ease with the football we were playing at some moments in the match. 'It's a very negative result but it's only three points lost and we can recover against AEK.' Deportivo are at home to AEK, who have one point, in the next round on November 25 while Monaco host PSV, who they beat 2-1 in Eindhoven.
