    Hi guys

I am thinking of getting an external TV tuner box. My CRT monitor is 21', I normally use 1600*1200 resolution, the LCD monitor is 15' with resolution 1024*768.

There are several brands on eBay: AverMedia, V-Gear. .. with various features.

Is anybody using one now? What's the signal like?

    Your opinion is greatly appreciated.

    Thanx in advance

I used Hauppauge cards for years. They're pretty good. The signal and reception vary. I never plugged an external antenna into my tv tuner cards and they looked fine. There wasn't much picture degredation that I could see - maybe a little. I don't use them any more since I pump my video through an ADVC-100 video converter so I can record video in digital format, so I don't know if they've improved or what features they have now. I'm guessing Hauppauge is still a good card.

I have a couple of 21" LCD's. One running at 1600x1200 that I've never pumped video into, and another running at I think 1024x768 that I run video in a window using Adobe Premiere (not full-screen), so I guess I'm not much help there. One thing you may have to watch out for on an LCD is ghosting and artifacts if your LCD's response time is too slow (a lot of the earlier models were too slow).

    Good luck.

** EDIT ** : ok, I think I mis-read. I thought you meant the internal tv tuner cards. I've seen the external tuner boxes (Viewsonic makes/made one, too), but have never used one.

Hmm, external TV tuner box. That's very cool. You can watch tv on your monitor without turning on your computer. I would say go for it. Internal are great you need to have you computer turn on. The AverMedia seems to have a good product.

    Thanx Doc.

I have a Radeon All-In-Wonder. But for some funny reason, the TV function stopped working one day. It keeps saying some other application is using the TV. I have tried to reinstall the OS but it's same error message.

Searched ATI support page, nothing there.

Also have a PCI Telemann HD TV tuner card, can't figure out how to get it to work with my AGP video card to work at the same time.
