This is not just for the minorities on the board. I know white guys on the board have had some sh*tty stuff said to them before.

For me, I recall walking back to my apartment in west campus and a group of frat boys drove by in the back of a pick up trucks. One of them yelled "F'ing sand n*&%$" and threw a half full beer can at me. It wasn't anywhere close to hitting me but I was still caught off guard. I didn't even knew that slur existed until then.

But like a normal human being I did wage a war against white people. I know it was an isolated incident with some ignorant guy from a small town who doesnt know anything.

I was dunked on and taunted by a black player during a company sponsored b-ball tournament when I worked at Enterprise Rent A Car. I think I heard some racial slurs in there, but it was hard to hear over the noise of the crowd laughing at me...

Good Lord, what a humiliating day that was.

I remember back in 6th grade this boy called me a zebra (I'm birracial) simply because in this group project we were doing I started writing things down and he wanted to do that. We got in a fight and I guess you could say I won but I paid for it later. Him and his friends called my house and harassed me with things like "Do you like n*ggers?" "I am going to come kick your a$$ if you hang out with n*ggers." and other jargon. When walking home from the local mall him and 4 other guys jumped me behind a Chinese restaurant but I suffered no serious injuries besides bruises and scratches and stuff. About 8-9 years down the road I ran into him at the local bowling alley and he walked up to me and was friendly and asking me how everything was going and as tough as it was I was still nice to him but he never did apologize.

I was at a club in the Houston area several years ago when I got in a fight with a couple of black guys. The club was real crowded, like shoulder to shoulder packed, I got slightly bumped into this guy and then he turned around and said, "watch where you're going cracker". I just ignored him until I got bumped into him again. He turned around with this pissed off look and said, "Didn't I tell you to..." That's when I popped him in the face. His friend then clocked me from the side and I ended up wrestling on the ground with them for a little bit. Lost the fight, but I felt happy with myself.

I also got jumped by some skin heads in another bar for no reason at all. Still trying to figure that one out since I'm also white. I guess there are just idiots everywhere. (usually at bars/clubs)

I remember working with this contractor (a software developer and a white guy) who was bleeding-heart liberal. He used to go on about race and how he was there when blacks were not allowed to vote, etc...

Interestingly enough he's the only person where I currently work where that has ever used an Asian stereotype in reference to me. I forgot exacly what he said but it had to do with the fact that because I was of Asian descent that I was good at something (math, maybe???).

I called him out on it ("What is THAT supposed to mean???") and he apologized for being "culturally insensitive". That kind of pissed me off more because "culturally" I'm American/Texan. I was born and raised here and "culturally" I'm as much Chinese as George Bush is English (or wherever the surname "Bush" comes from). So, not only did this bleeding heart stereotype me into being good at math (or whatever) because of the way I look, he stereoypted my into a particular culture because of the way I look.

When he made that stereotypical reference, he wasn't (IMO) insulting Asian "culture" as much as he was classifying me (and therefore my skills) based on the fact that my ancestors happened to come from a particular part of the world.

I had several people ask me if I were English 35 years ago in Europe. As someone more Scotch-Irish than English, and more importantly, a Texan, I found it a bit much. Certainly good for a laugh. Considering that Vietnam was going full-bore back then, it may have been helpful when I was hitchhiking.

We had three black neighborhoods in my hometown... Gospel Hill, Smith Hill, and The Projects. A buddy and I would go over and play ball. He was a guard and I was a C/PF. Everyone called him "Pistol." Everyone called me "Billy Paultz."

On 8th grade bball trips, the brothers sat in the back (by choice). Late at night coming back from somewhere, if you went to sleep or lost your situational awareness, a brother would sneak up behind you and thump your ears.

HS Football... the locker room windows were blacked out so we could watch film. After every practice, just as everyone had taken off their tape and balled it up, someone would flip the lights off creating utter darkness. Everyone would then throw their tape balls as hard as they could. Brothers would throw in the general direction of white boys and white boys would throw in the general direction of brothers. As soon a the lights came back everyone was expected to freeze. At this point, everyone laughed at everyone else because people would be crammed into lockers, in fetal positions under benches, etc., and everything went back to normal. Problem is, you couldn't tell when someone would switch the lights and each group tried to time the lights off so that it would be advantageous to their group. One day after practice, all the brothers ran in as quickly as possible. We white boys thought this was odd until we came in and saw all the tape balls strategically positioned for maximum deployment. we had barely gotten our shoes off when the lights went off. I took a couple of welts that day and the tables were reversed a few days later. After a week or two of this, everyone kept their helmet on so you would see naked guys going to the showers while wearing their helmets and people getting dressed with helmets on and at the last moment throwing their helmet off and making a run for the exit. Good times.

Funny this thread was brought up, I just started working at the Verizon Wireless Call Center for Wireless Data Tech Support, basically support for PDAs, Aircards, teathering connections with Cell Phones. Anyways, last Tuesday, I was speaking to a customer and was troubleshooting his issue. In the middle of the conversation, he said "Thank god I am not speaking to a filipino or an indian".

To be honest honest, I wasn't insulted, I thought it was hilarious. I even told him "ummm, I am filipino but our call center is in Houston". The customer thought I was kidding but I told him I was dead serious. He apologized to no end and even said "I have nothing against asians, hell my wife is Vietnamese". I was like, yea, he was just trying to save face.

I wasn't really offended in anyway, I just thought it was hilarious with his word choosing and irony of what I ended up being.

I was around 13 and while walking to play b-ball in a "not so safe" area that I had recently moved to, a couple of people in a group of about 7 hispanics from their gated fence shout, "get out of our neighborhood honkey". The two precede to chase me with a huge wrench but under estimated my speed and ended up trying to throw the wrench at me from about 20 feet away, barely missed too. Thank god i wasnt fat and slow.

hispanic female: so when can we go swimming in your new pool? i love swimming!
caucasian male: of course you do. that's how you came over here right?
me (asian male): dude, that wasn't cool.
caucasian male: what you mean? isn't that how you came over here to? but by boat right?
me (asian male): again, that isn't cool.
caucasian male: it's ok, i came over here by boat too. i'm part irish
me (asian male): so that justifies what all you just said to us?

It's not about whether he's pissed off, it was about stereotype. If you think "good" stereotype is ok, then you have no choice but to accept "bad" stereotype, even if you don't want to.

Soooo, since we're "white", we wouldnt feel comfortable because?

:D By the way I'm half joking, but I think some people in reversed circumstances may notice things such as this a little more....Like if i started a country music thread and said...Black guys are welcome too..I know not exactly the same but i think i has the same concept to it.
