http://www.wtopnews.com/index.php?sid=142203&nid=25 Brand Names ... for Kids? Updated: Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003 - 4:44 AM WTOP's Brennan Haselton asks what you think. WASHINGTON - Baby, baby. What's in a name? Years ago, it used to be people named their kids after religious figures and saints. Or they named them after dad or grandma or mom's favorite aunt. Forget Mike or John. Today, the latest trend in baby names takes pop-culture to a new level, naming kids after consumer products. Yes, parents are naming their children after cars, clothing, hair dye and even canned peas. Infiniti. Celica. Armani. Timberland. Nautica. L'Oreal. Del Monte. Those are some of the names that Cleveland Evans, a psychology professor at Nebraska's Bellevue University and a member of the American Name Society, found when he studied Social Security records for the year 2000. According to a web article on World Magazine's site, Evans also found two separate parents, one in Texas and one in Michigan, who named their sons ESPN after the sports cable network. If that's not bad enough. One WTOP staffer has talked with teen girls named Nonchalant and Unnecessary. Imagine introducing yourself at a job interview with those names. And, no kidding, another staffer has even heard of one named Syphilis. Boy, you can bet she'll have a hard time getting a date.
that is too funny!!! soda...who doesn't like soda?? it's refreshing! thirteen?? no, thirteen's no good.
oh yeah, i remeber i asked you about the history/origin of the name in another thread, but I forgot to go back and check if you ever answered it
Sisters named Oranjello and Yellojello, with the stress in the second syllable on each. A friend's uncle was nicknamed Beer. His son became Little Beer.
The only weird name I can think of off the top of my head was this chick named Rainey, because she was born on a rainy day. She had a brother named Sonny... Good thing we lived in SE Texas where it didn't snow...
haha that is a funny bit Carlin does on names A person's name really does effect their personality and emotional development I think
I hate to say this under a thread that asks what the most "absurd" first name I've heard is because I really respect this guy, and I'd never want to make fun of his name... ....but I mentioned this guy the other day in the "cheap wine" thread.....his first name is: Monsterville Horton IV Monsterville strikes me as a somewhat odd first name....I find it even more odd that he's a fourth.
I know an elementary school teacher that swears that she had a pair of boy/girl obviously non identical twins named "Molly" and "FeMolly". That was how the names were pronounced. When asked why they were named these names, the mother claimed that the hospital had already named the kids for her. The actual spelling for "FeMolly" was female, and male for "Molly". This was too unbelievable, but she swore that it was true.
I heard of this girl named Tuesday. I hate when parents name their kids after vehicles they cannot afford, Porche, Mercedes and so on.
