Okay, U2 is a band that has been around forever. I am going to start getting into their catalog but I'll probably stop after "Achtung Baby". I don't know for sure, though. However, what is your pick as the best U2 song?? I'll go with "Sunday Bloody Sunday" EDIT - I tried to include a couple of songs from the '90s but it is the '80s ones that I know the best.
Can't pick just one, so here's my top 10: 1. Where the Streets Have No Name (greatest video ever) 2. Ultraviolet (Light My Way) 3. When You Look at the World 4. So Cruel 5. With or Without You 6. One Tree Hill 7. Bad 8. The Unforgettable Fire 9. Angel of Harlem 10. 40
I don't know if I'd call it the best, but "where the streets have no name" still gives me chills to this day.
Manny, you should be ashamed that you put a song like "Discotheque" up there and left all of the stuff from their latest CD off. Some of my personal favorites have come from that CD, Beautiful Day and the Elevation remix are awesome. "One" is probably my favorite song off of that list.
Alright confess, who voted for Discotechque? Let's have it! Everybody knows this is U2's best song : Did I disappoint you Or leave a bad taste in your mouth You act like you never had love And you want me to go without Well it's... Too late Tonight To drag the past out into the light We're one, but we're not the same We get to Carry each other Carry each other One... Have you come here for forgiveness Have you come to raise the dead Have you come here to play Jesus To the lepers in your head Did I ask too much More than a lot You gave me nothing Now it's all I got We're one But we're not the same Well we Hurt each other Then we do it again You say Love is a temple Love a higher law Love is a temple Love the higher law You ask me to enter But then you make me crawl And I can't be holding on To what you got When all you got is hurt One love One blood One life You got to do what you should One life With each other Sisters Brothers One life But we're not the same We get to Carry each other Carry each other ----------------------------------- Damn, now I want to hear that song this instant!
I'm actually participating in a Manny music thread, and he has to go and pick my favorite song to make sure I vote in his poll. War is one of the first cds I bought, and probably the one I've listened the most. B
Hard to pick just one, but since I'm pressed... I chose New Year's Day. That song has so much emotion in it and just rocks.
Bad Gone Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me Desire One Tree Hill my personal faves Of those listed, I'd have voted for One.
What? No 'Mysterious Ways', 'Numb' and 'Lemon'??? Mysterious Ways is easily my favorite, and One, Where The Streets Have No Name, and With or Without You are some other favorites.
"Numb" is on there. Isn't the video for it just The Edge sitting in a chair and having all kinds of weird things done to him like getting rope tied around his face?? Oh and B, You KNOW that you have always wanted to participate in one of these threads!
I think "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" is the best example of U2 combining their musical roots, their own musical innovations and introspective, spirtual lyrics. It's more like a hymn then a song, which makes it all the more beautiful.
I like the older U2 stuff so I voted for Sunday Bloody Sunday, but if I had known Numb hadn't gotten any votes I would have given it the sympathy vote (I have a soft spot for that song). *as I switch to itunes to play numb on mp3*
how can this list, or any "U2 best of" list, not include BAD? that alone renders the entire effort meaningless. unless you were working under the "star wars" assumption, wherein one assumes, if you're of a certain age, that SW is your favorite movie of all-time, so you put it aside when discussing film -- was that what you did with BAD? otherwise, in my best jackie childs: it's preposterous and ergregious!
Ric, A band like U2 as you know has had a long discography since they have been around for over 20 years. To pick 10 songs is really damn impossible, so that is why I went with "other" for the last choice. Also, I wanted to include some of their stuff from the '90s like "Numb" and "Discotheque". That is why "Where the Streets Have No Name" is not on the list (even though it has been mentioned by several people).
