After participating in my first cc.net event. It surprised me how many people are from out of town. I'm curious: 1. Who has never lived in Houston, and loves the Rockets. 2. Who was breast fed the Rockets, and was then weened away by a family move, job, or their college selection 3. Who was born in another bball area, and couldn't stand missing out on Calvin Murphy's telecasts, so they moved to Houston to cheer closer to the Summit. 4. Who lives in another country altogether. I'm a #3
Grew up in Houston, went to school in San Marcos, settled in Austin. Love ALL Houston sports teams...I still root for the Titans. The Rockets have been and always will be my favorite. DaDakota ------------------
Grew up in corpus (thank god i got out of htere), I live in Austin, and believe it or not, i got accepted into UT even with my bad spelling, lol. I am a fan of all texas teams, but i tend to favor the houston ones (hate the spurs). heypartner, Ive loved the rockets for as long as i can remember, but i wouldnt breast feed lewis lloyd or "mr. mean" larry smith to save my life. ------------------ "Don't they get cable in Canada ?" Keith olbermann, after watching hakeem block terry catledge's shot 5 times.
Born in Ft.Lauderdale, FLORIDA. Got tired of the sun , came to houston and I have been living here now for 12 years. Always a rockets fan and a fan of any houston sports teams. HOUSTON #1 ------------------ President of the Moochie Norris FAN CLUB
Grew up in Charleston, SC. Went to school there at the College of Charleston (which is older than the US ) Moved out here to SLC in 1995 (after I graduated) to snowboard. I was always a Charles fan, and disappointed when I couldn't watch as many games (other than the playoffs) when he moved to Phoenix. Gained great respect for the Rockets in the 2 7 game series. When Charles was traded to the Rockets, it sealed the fanship. Why I'm still here: haven't the slightest . The team makes it easier. ------------------
"Got tired of the sun"?! LOL Man, did you move to the wrong city Maybe, you just loved the Rockets that much Me, I was born in Pennsylvania, moved to Houston when I was very young, became a Rocks fan in '85, moved to Gainesville, FL a couple of years ago to go to grad school, but still try to catch every Rockets game I can. ------------------
Grew up in Houston. Went to Dallas for college (with a brief stint in Paris). Saw one Mavericks game (the ticket was $5) and boy was that depressing. Ended up back in Houston which was a unexpected, but has made me happy. ------------------ rimbaud post-a-thon 2000 [This message has been edited by rimbaud (edited April 21, 2000).]
#1 - Born, raised, and currently live in Pennsylvania, half a mile from the Maryland line. Became an fanatic Steve Francis fan after watching him play at Allegany College, suffered through the agonizing year with Maryland (in which Gary Williams wasted half of his talent by putting him at the 2), felt Steve's pain when the Grizzlies actually picked him, and then happily became a Rockets fan. I was in Houston once in my life a couple of years ago. Would love to go back, if not just to eat at Willy G's in Galveston. ------------------
I live in Rhode Island and I think I am the only Rocket fan here. Although Houston was always one of my favorite teams it wasn't my number one until Bark signed. I followed Chuck (my favorite player) from Philly, Phoenix to Houston and it was really hard being a Suns and Rockets fan during the heated playoffs. Ever since Chuck signed it has been great though and I will always be a Houston fan. Can't wait for the cc.net b-ball games. ------------------ THE DEAN
I too was born in Pennsylvania, but moved to Houston with my parents in '82(or '83). I didn't quite like the Oilers or Astros(grew to love them though) at first(I am a Steelers and Pirates fan), but almost immediately fell in love with the Rockets. My earliest memory watching the Rockets was when they were playing the Celtics in the Finals when I was in 5th grade. Since then I've been hooked! ------------------ The lottery sucks!
I grew up in Houston, went to U of H, then moved to Austin, then to Washington, DC, which is where I've been for the 12 years. Now I build extranets and intranets, currently developing UUNET's new intranet, encapsulating their business processes into the browser. I've always been a Rockets fan, got more excited with Phi Slamma Jamma, just about never forgave Houston for not taking Clyde, thrilled they took Dream, never bought into Sampson, couldn't believe they wouldn't trade Sampson for Clyde and Jordan, yucked it up during championships, forgave the Rockets when they got Clyde, then found couldn't believe my good luck in finding Clutch City 3 years ago, started posting to the BBS a year or so ago, and read it just about every day. I love this place... ------------------
Currently, I live in Costa Rica. I'm not really enjoying it. It's one of those places that are nice to visit, but not great to live in. Before that, I lived in Holland. I'm actually part Dutch, by the way. Now why do I like the Rockets? Well, I lived in Houston for three years. It's a great city. I miss both Texas and Holland alike. Dickerson? You're Dutch? Kick a*s! Waar woon je dan? Nederland in 2000, baby! ------------------ Nederland 2000 NBA+stupidity=Brand ROY NBA+common sense=Franchise MVP Houston Rockets Space Center- Not just another ClutchCity.NET clone. I was raised in Houston since I was 3 years old and I've been a Rockets and Astros fan my entire life. I'm going to be a huge Houston ------ football team fan, too. I can't wait. I went to school at UT in Austin where I got to celebrate both Championships on 6th street. Not quite the Richmond Ave experience but definitely exciting. I now live in Bryan and get more Rockets telecasts than I did in Austin, Thank God. I've never been to a Rockets game, but I definitely plan to next year.
Many thanks to heypartner for starting this thread and giving me an ideal opprtunity to start posting. Well, I fit into #4. I was born, and still live, in England. Stratford-upon-Avon to be exact. The reason I became a Rockets fan is because I saw the first NBA Finals televised live in England between the Rockets/Knicks. Now, I couldn't just watch it without rooting for one team so I picked the Rockets, as I couldn't stand to see those cocky New Yorkers win anything. That's how I started and I've been a keen Rockets fan since. ------------------
sid: Welcome, Good choice in picking the Rockets. I like you already, as I have a great love for England. Growing up, I was indoctrinated with "England is wonderful" stories because my father is a professor of British history and lived in London for a while. I have been a few times and fell in love with the country and the people. Paris will always be first because I lived there, but then follows the UK. ------------------ rimbaud post-a-thon 2000
Sid, that's our kind of thinking! I was born in France (I'm surprised about all the fellow Europeans here), raised in Houston and went to the University of Chicago starting '93-'94 so I missed our two championship parades. I've been stuck here since graduating, but will hopefully be able to return to Houston soon. ------------------
Im from Montana, grew up loving the rockets. But i go to texas like twice a year. So i see my share of games. ------------------ Rocketfan
rimbaud/Juan, Thanks for the welcome guys. I too was suprised with the number of Euros on this board. The only problem I have is actually getting to see any games. All I get is the TNT double header from Friday nights spread over Sat/Sun nights. All they seem to show are the Lakers, Kings and Pacers. I see a few highlights on CNN, but mainly I have to rely on reading match reports on the internet. Not ideal. ------------------
I've never lived in Houston, but the Rockets are the only team I've rooted for my whole life. Born: Eggland, Fl Moved: Langley, VA Moved: Sculthorpe, England Moved: Homestead, Fl Moved: Syracuse, NY Moved: Rochester, NY (RIT) Moved: Washington DC Go Rockets! ------------------ humble, but hungry.
