Nets: Free agent Traylor fails physical

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Free agent forward Robert Traylor failed a physical and will not join the New Jersey Nets this season.

Team president Rod Thorn declined to announce further details Tuesday.

The 28-year-old Traylor became a free agent in June when the Cleveland Cavaliers declined to pick up the option on his $1.76 million contract for the upcoming season.

He averaged 5.5 points and a career-high 4.5 rebounds in 74 games last season as a backup center for the Cavaliers.

The seven-year NBA veteran has averaged 4.8 points and 3.7 rebounds in 438 career games.

I've heard that they not only ask, but actually check  that the player does not have a penis (rumored Question #7 on the NJN physical form). If it turns out that the player has one, then the player fails.

Makes you wonder about the current cast of Nets, doesn't it...?

I just heard on ESPN that Traylor's Ragu quotient in his blood stream far exceeded the league's minimum levels.

Everybody likes to make fun... But Traylor would certainly make for a decent big off the bench for the Rockets. As fat as he is, he was a high draft pick for a reason. He does have basketball skills.

He'd be an awfully nice pickup for the league minimum...

5.5 and 4.5 vs 3 and 3. Not exactly different worlds.

Stats never tell the whole story, have to watch the players actually play. Traylor actually hustles a lot on D, ran on quite a few fast breaks and was a strong finisher on the inside. spoon looked lethargic at best, always posting up or spotting for the J. They are two very different players.

Not to mention that I said he'd be good pickup for the league minimum.

We cut Spoon because of his salary.

I'll trust JVG on this one. If he wants Tractor he'll go get him somehow. 'Course if he is really injured we maybe don't want him. He'd be good insurance if you ask me, and nobody did.

Traylor actually has some nice touch around the hoop, a decent mid-range jumper, and can handle the ball well too. He's very mobile for as large as he is. In my opinion, that's the only reason he has stayed in the league for 8 years. If he was immobile, he's be another Thomas Hamilton....or worse, a shorter Stanley Roberts.

actually i don't think SAR actually failed the physical. it was just some old scar tissue in his knee that was found. but whoever questioned the "tractor" actually passing a physical to begin with has a valid point. but seriously, the army has an easier physical to pass than the NJ Nets. this is ridiculous.

I like to make fun of Tractor "Fats" Traylor as much as anyone, but he would be a good #3 PF for us. He seemed to be popular with the Cleveland fans because of his hustle.

funny how SAR failed their physical while Vince "I won't drive in if someone just pushes me once" Carter didn't.
