It's really frustrating as a Rockets fan to see what has happened to this team. First, the whole thing with Eddie Griffin and now the thing with Maurice Taylor. I really enjoyed the team when Barkley, Clyde and Hakeem were on this team. This team seemed to be a really classy team, but now things are a lot different. Where has all the class gone?
mo money, mo problems. but really, i think age and professionalism are somewhat related. With all the youngyins entering the league, the professionalism is going out the window as many have only played ball their whole life and missed out back in the day when athletes also went to school. Because of a lack of base for maturity, people can become more self-destructive with the money they earn, and this creates a ripple effect to others. my school paper wrote an article on how 15 years ago, our basketball players had a 95% graduation rate, and all maintained grades over a 2.5 gpa. Now, the team has players who can't play because they have below a 1.5, and players are transferring to other schools or the nba early instead of earning their diplomas. Graduation attrition? 60%. i think the money and prestige has gone to the heads of the athletes and they neglect the maturity that they must learn to manage that money when they get it.
