Enough is Enough. Someone help me. What does Patrick Ewing Do? The man sits on the bench and doesn't say a word. He's just chilling with that frickin' clipboard! He's sitting near players, but nobody says one word to him. You don't see him coaching ANYBODY either! I haven't seen JVG confer with him, no other assistants "stop by" to talk to him during games, NADA. WTF does he do? Please help me. I've been to a couple of games and noticed this in person as well. I watch as much as possible during TV games during the half-court sets. When there is a time out...he dishes no high-fives to hot players or gives pats on the back. Hell he doesn't even give interviews! It is mind boggling. Great win tonight though. I don't think Ewing contributed a dang thing.
According to Bill and Van at the Rockets game Tuesday, Patrick Ewing has worked with Yao in keeping the ball up in the air before a layup, instead of dribbling and turning it over. Thanks PE
Yeah...I know it's monthly...but has anybody answered the question? Have you seen anyone so clearly lost on the bench? Look at his face when you get a chance....my boy is just mailing it in!
Naaaaaaw, they are just trying to get the VIP treatment at the men's clubs that Pat frequents. Suck ups.
The above is about the most absurd way to judge an assistant coach I have ever seen, but anyway, his purpose is apparently to take all the blind criticism when Yao is ineffective, and to receive zero credit when he is. Hopefully you are kidding?
What do you expect him to do? He's an assistant coach. Most assistant coach stuff is behind the scenes. How many assistant coaches around the league do you notice doing anything? Give the man a break.
Just so we set the record straight.... Ewing played for the dreaded NY Knicks and was Olajuwon's rival...therefore he must be stupid, cant coach and does nothing for Yao or for the team. FYI, when I went to the Rockets/Hawks game last year in Atlanta, Ewing was out with Yao before the game and fed Yao the ball on post moves and was working with him on post positioning. I am not sure if he still does that before the game but he was working Yao then. I think I included some photos of that in my report, see my sig.
I went to the Suns/Rockets game at home this year and saw the same thing. A few other things to note: During TOs, when Yao is in the game, JVG usually has Yao's attention, so Ewing doesn't say much. However, in the limited camera time I've seen, Yao is usually sitting near Ewing when hes not in the game. Therefore, I think its safe to assume that Ewing isn't just "sitting on the bench not saying a word".
I notice Yao & Ewing has pretty good relationship. Many times I saw Yao made some great plays or went to bench Ewing pat him on the butt. Or Yao laughing and saying something to Ewing when the game is over they're leaving to the tunnel together.
