I didn't count the coaching change as a roster move. Plus if I had listed that there wouldn't have been room for an "other" choice. Kinda scary actually.
The T-Mac haul that reeled in two players, a pick, and the rights to swap a pick, all for a player that no NBA team apparently wants.
Sorry - couldn't fit an other choice in. I don't think the Artest signing was his best move - not sure if Artest is what got us to the 2nd round.
Another underrated move, IMO, was handing over the keys to the PG position to Brooks by trading Alston and getting back the best backup point guard in the league in Lowry in the same deal. Sucks that we had to get back Cook though. His worst move to date was signing David Anderson instead of going after Channing Frye for a similar deal. That is minor though. His best move in the future will be to aquire Melo or CP3.
I picked the drafting of Brooks. He's the best player after Yao in my opinion and one of the cornerstones of the Franchise. One of the great draft picks in Rockets history in terms of talent against draft position.
That move put us in position to go higher in the post season then we ever did in the last 11 or so years. We finally got past the 1st round! The Martin trade is good also, but we don't know the results of it yet. For all we know, him and Yao probably won't even make the playoffs, you never know. I grade this as an Incomplete. Also, how could I forget about Scola trade? Easily a lopsided trade in our favor. V-Span didn't even last a season with the Spurs. His drafting of Brooks, trading draft rights to Landry, aquiring Chase for cash all are up there as well.
I agree. It's the most lopsided transaction of the choices. We gave up nothing and got a fantastic starting PF back.
I'm going for the V-span for Scola move. True, the Artest trade meant we finally got out of the first round in years, but in the end, it only lasted for a year. Scola has been a double-double machine and is probably one of the rare mistakes the Spurs FO has ever made.
Nice thread. Currently: Aaron Brooks and Kyle Lowry. This year and the future if he isn't traded: Trevor Ariza. I'm certain he's going to be a great player. He had a tough first year with us, but I can see what he has to offer with some more refinement.
Artest was the only major change to the rotation. Yao, T-mac, Brooks, Scola and Landry were carried over from the previous year. T-Mac was out.
You forgot Scola, Landry and Brooks improving into account. Their improvement was what got us into the 2nd round. Brick-to-my-lou manning the pg spot and Juwon Howard the pf spot wouldn't have got it done. Also, instead of the Jazz we faced the Blazers. I'm not sure we would have passed the 2nd round if we faced Boozer, Williams, Okur and Kirilenko again.
We still don't know what the draft picks will end up being from the Tmac trade. TBD should be the status of that trade. So far so good though.
Good thread. Scola. You can either call him the heart and soul of this team or the spine. He is a walking double-double who has played 82 games every year his entire Rockets and NBA career. He is so good we take him for granted sometimes, like when we knew Hakeem was going to produce every night, or a quiet rock like Duncan is for the spurs.
