It is clear we are at a fork in the road here with him? I still believe in his talent, but it is hard to see his development road here. With that being said, I don't think we should be in some rush to trade him off, but I would definitely take something good (think DEN 2031 1st) for him if we got offered it tomorrow.
Just a reminder - he's still all of 20 years old and has only 1 year under his belt. He'a "at a crossroad" like a 6 year old graduating from Kindergarten and entering the First Grade. Maybe pump the breaks a bit on that "end of the line" paradigm you're pushing. Most players in his position would still be looking for meaningful minutes. Maybe at least wait until his rookie option comes up before jumping the gun on pushing to get rid of him.
Hinges on the question...gun to the head and asked Amen or Cam....then Amen. Gun to the head Cam or Sengün .....Sengün ....and so on until you ask do you sign Cam on a team friendly contract......Yes.
I think it depends on how fast the young core on the Rockets continues to develop and become a legit contender. If the Rockets take a few more years I think Cam might just want to go somewhere else for more playing time. The quicker the Rockets are contenders the quicker Cam might be a valuable bench player for them.
Have some patience and hold on to him. You’re not going to get anything of value by trading him as is. I had the same opinion on Jalen. Cam is in the same situation.
Well he's isnt replacing green spot on the starting lineup like many predicted/wanted. Man needs someone to feed him ez buckets bc he's really good at finishing strong. Has tunnel vision and is playing quite selfish Near the end bench player with potential to move up the ranking when we get rid of our vets, if that's the plan.
No urgency. Let him cook awhile in RGV and hang around to see if an opportunity arises. We ain't getting s*it for him right now and he costs us next to nothing. Why trade him? I've never seen such a bunch of impatient little twits than on this board.
Please read these two posts and /thread. It's insane to trade Cam this year unless he's a throw-in for someone big.
This roster could look very different a year from now - he needs development time to get better and he needs minutes to do that and currently the minutes aren't there, but there should be more minutes for him this year and certainly more next year - there is absolutely no reason to panic on him right now. We(and frankly - him too) have the luxury of not having to have the future hinge on his minutes....we can bring him along in a reasonable way like many other young players on deep rosters. We don't have to get them out there leading a team ASAP because we have no one else to score like we did with Jalen and Alpi.
Somehow I deemed the opposite. If they are contenders, they need a more veteran player to advance..... If the Rockets are not ready, they can give Cam more playing time.....Ime is just not the guy for someone like Cam.
Udoka isn't the problem. He's no Stephen Silas and that's a good thing. Cam is the main problem. He's been terrible and there are other youngsters on the team to develop who are progressing much faster than he is.
It largely depends on Cam. We need him to be more consistent offensively and play good defense off the bench. Ime is a defense first coach, look at Green. He played poor defense last year so he couldn't stay on the floor but this year, he clearly focused on improving his defense in the off-season so Ime is playing him in crunch time. Sengun meanwhile is getting benched because he's lost defensively many plays.
It does seem like a bad fit with Ime. He's like a giant, athletic Tre Mann. Exceptional bucket getter who doesn't offer anything else. Buttttt we pretty much said that about Jalen and now he's locking in on defense. Sending him to RGV was the right move. He can get his buckets, but being out of the spotlight could open his mind to the question of how he got there. Many kids today find everyone else to blame. The coach is playing favorites, it's about draft position, NBA is politics, blah blah. But there's always a chance that he'll watch his own tape and realize that being a black hole and not defending is beyond the occasional gamble to jump a passing lane isn't getting him the minutes he wants.
I do not see a problem, the Rockets are playoff contenders and Cam as a 20 year old should belong on a bad team or a mediocre team. The miracle is if Udoka can get him ahead of time and contribute for a playoff contender, which in his timeline should be about when he turns 24 or 25. If that happens, both sides should be happy.
