There has been a lot of discussion about being a newbie and not having the same kind of priveleges as old timers. What exactly are your parameters to determineing if someone is a newbie? What makes someone not a newbie? An especially good post? Senior member status? Discuss
I think it might well be broken down into B.T.B, and A.T.B...as in Before Troy Barros and After Troy Barros. If you were around to remember who he was, you're probably thought to be a vet. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you're probably considered a newbie...I personally find the whole status thing a little silly, but I do see that credibility of a certain level takes time to build, and I would probably give credence to a rumour posted by someone like HP a lot quicker than I would to one posted by a newer poster I had no real experience with. In terms of opinions, though, I think each has it's own merit.
I go by BM and AY. BM is Before Ming, members from that time would be old schoolers who were always Rockets fans. AY is Anno Yao, In the year of our Yao. Those are the Johnny come latelys and the Ming only fans, and people from all over China who caused the explosion in membership, many of whom don't even post.
well so far i guess i am half newbie and half not...i was here before yao and after 'steve francis' special friend'
LOL, true. I've been a Rocket fan for 26 years but I've only been on this board for less than 1. It's all pretty silly if you ask me. Although it IS fun to slam someone that starts a "fire rudy" or "possible trade" thread the same day they join.
i'm no newby, i'm before ming and i saw posts of troybarros. If been to this site for when it stil was on clutchcity.com. but i've been on this bbs for a shorter time in my opinion a newby is someone that hasn't posted alot, and starts stupid threads that has been started a milion times before by newby's.
Guys...Determining whether or not someone is a newbie is a simple matter. Just refer ot the following list. If two or more apply to you then you are a newbie. 1. You have an 'R' in your screenname. 2. You have an double letters in your first, middle, or last name. 3. You are lactose intolerant. 4. Your company matches your 401k contribution. 5. You have an ergonomical 'split' keyboard. 6. You still play Ultima III on your C-64 because you found where the monsters generate & you took over a pirate ship. 7. You start threads worried about being considered a newbie. 8. You have a vestigial tail. 9. Your spouse or lifemate cracks his or her knuckles compulsively. 10. You prefer Honey Mustard dressing on your salad. 11. You cheat at solitaire. 12. You Tivo the afternoon Who wants to be a Millionaire. It's that simple guys. Oh yeah and if you have any you would like to add to the list feel free.
Priceless Chance................ 13. You start, what you feel, is a ground breaking thread about moving Steve Francis to SG only to find out there are 4 other front page threads covering the same issue.
Oh, heck yes....Im on someone's "favorite" list. Thanks bro. About the list, 14. You are a newbie if you dont check clutchcity.net compulsively throughout the day.
15. You are tied for the most conservative poster on the BBS. 16. You have had more than one screen name. 17. You write fun, catchy songs about Rockets and/or former Rockets.
OK for the record I was not describing myself in my initial list. IT was just, pretty much, random things. I thought we could have a list of totally random things that make someone a newbie like: You know you are a newbie if... 18. You think Anakin's glasses were cool in Episode !'s pod race scene. 19. You floss daily but brush rarely. 20. You have any piercings below the waist.
21. Your hair is more than one color (including body hair) 22. You have an odd number of pets 23. You can predict the weather with joint pain 24. You really liked Jar-Jar and don't see what all the fuss is about 25. You knew that Bruce Willis was dead the whole time in the 6th sense, you just didn't want to ruin it for anyone else 26. There are more vowels in your name than consonants 27. You have ever participated in a twelve step program, despite not having the problem the program was designed for 28. You compulsively make lists to categorize people 29. BBS posters have screen names that cover the names of all of your first cousins, immediate family, and yourself 30. You can't fugure out why the BBS posters hate two such classy and talented guys as Malone and Stockton
